Yup.... was saying before the fight that it will be interesting to see how Martinez reacts to the surgery/recovery being that he is now 38.

The opponent was bigger than Martinez. Commentators stated that Martinez is really a 154lb fighter who fights 160 fighters. Not sure if Martinez can still make 154 but if he can, that might be a good option .... but especially at his age, that can spell weight drain if he has a hard time making weight.

He may have reached a point where he is too old and small to be effective against bigger 160lb fighters and too old and its been too long ago to try to make 154 comfortably.

They also said that he will not fight again this year. If not then can anyone see Martinez coming back at 39 and still being the same Martinez? I doubt that very much ....

he focuses too much on entertaining the crowd that he leaves his defense out the door.

Martínez is still a great boxer but he is 38 and is starting to show it. When the body starts to break down, that's a sure sign that you are on borrowed time. Not everyone has a style that ages well like Foreman or Hopkins. Sergio depends a lot on reflexes and that makes things difficult once you are getting close to 40.

I think he still would do well against fighters that don't pressure a lot and will not force him to move too much. The truth is that a mover with a bad leg faces an uphill battle against elite competition. I think the fight with Cotto would make sense, all things considered. That could be a superb and competitive boxing match.

He does need to retire but unfortunately these boxers dunno when to quit when they're on top. They have to get wrecked first to get a reality check. They're idiots...

Seems he didn't prepare well for this fight. Or smply his age is finally catching up with him.

A Chavez Jr rematch was pretty laughable before now not so much. I think Chavez Jr could beat him a rematch that overrated, overhyped cashcow still gets KTFO though.

My god he has one debatable win over a guy with a broken ankle that is scared of committing to his shots & hes hailed as the next Hagler Saul Alvarez is the most overhyped load of rubbish I've seen since Amir Khan.

Hes in the weakest division there is keep him far away from Lara. I reckon Rosado buries him too, real talk.

What is supposed to be good about him? He sure doesn't impress me.

Sergio beats him after going the distance with Murray.

Chavez retired him but he didnt want to give Chavez that stratification so he try to go on but failed.

                  Chavez owned him.

Sergio isn't shot....but he clearly wasn't as sharp as the Chavez fight. Whether it was the inevitable age factor, surgery effecting him, or just an off night....we'll find out in his next fight.

He needs to fight Daniel Geale, Gennady Golovkin, or Peter Quillin next.
