He should, but I hope he keeps on fighting

hopefully we'll see him getting KO'd by GGG in a ¨passing the torch¨ match

This. I like 4 corners but the mofo always brings up unrelated agenda that he wants to put out.

          STFU already.

Sergio needs to fight his best fights at 160...or yes....retire. All I see for him are Geale, Golovkin, and Quillin. It'd be a great stretch to go out on.

And to clarify this....I don't even think Manny or Floyd are "shot". I think Marquez, even though he landed the two punches that caught Manny, is faded more than them or Sergio. And Hopkins is completely shot in my book, it's just that even a shot Hopkins can beat guys like Cloud, Murat, Cleverly, etc. He wouldn't beat guys like Dawson and Ward.
I look at things this way. Floyd and Bernard have emptied their clip but they are still proficient with using the gun as a club and using their knife. Manny and Sergio have ran out of bullets and they are ineffective when it comes to relying on other tools.

It is as clear as day that all of the fighters listed have lost a step in various departments but some ( Bernard and Floyd) have the ring IQ to make adjustments. Sergio and Manny depend on their athleticism too much, in the case of Manny he ran into a bullet. In the case of Sergio he made his job more difficult than it had to be.

I mostly agree, wouldn't mind if he had. I just don't want to sound dramatic off of one bad performance. But he has aged, or showed his age. It happens to fighters. He's 38 after all, and his style is very demanding on the body. I think the recurring injuries played their part as well.

He looked great in his last fight, I thought he looked spectacular all around versus Chavez, so the turn around was dramatic, but that's boxing for ya. I recall saying the same thing about Mosley after the Floyd fight who too was 38 then. 15 months prior he looked great for a few reasons, but he looked like an old 38 in there (Floyd still gets full credit don't get me wrong, it's just clear when a fighter has gotten old, it's part of the sport).

But I don't want to write him off so fast, I think the injuries hindered him, and I'm at least hopeful he can come back and look solid. It's not like he's been up and down with his performances as of the last 4 years. He's generally looked good. He hasn't lost since Williams in 2009 and you could argue that as a win anyhow. Not to mention, Murray was considerably bigger than him and Martinez may be experiencing the wear and tear of facing bigger guys as of late.

He needs to fight Daniel Geale, Gennady Golovkin, or Peter Quillin next.
Agreed. His body might be failing him, but still, Murray was having success because of Sergio's sloppy and inconsistent defense (an inherent style flaw). I'd rather see Martinez lose to the #2 guy and pass on the lineal title. He should take a year off and come back for one more fight.

take the biggest payday out there - against Chavez - then retire.

His reflexes have diminished. Being honest I felt he looked soft, compared to normal.

He looked one-dimensional, the speed wasn't there, his jab was not what it was - that was one hell of a weapon. His punch resistance is very questionable IMO 5 of his last 8 have decked him & I'm sorry but Macklin & Murray are not punchers.

Rule them slips or whatever, his punch resistance is on the fade.

I say all this as a fan as hes going to lose to some absolute bum before hes finished. Any other country & he may not of got the nod.

Credit to Murray, he came with a great gameplan, 'he good boy' but for me is the weakest of the trio - Murray, Barker, Macklin, I think both the others beat him soundly I really do.

I don't want to see Sergio fight again after tonight, I had him destroying GGG, Quillin etc before now I think GGG in particular literally ends his life.

Sorry fellow Martinez fans but hes shot to ****. He had a lucky escape tonight.

it's sad, but that's how it's got to be.

dibella will certainly try and get another payday from him. he doesn't get fighters like that too often. and sergio entered boxing late and may appreciate another payday.

this was supposed to be an "easy fight." he almost lost it. at the very best he'll be out of the ring for 9 months to a year or more, being 39 or possibly even 40 when he returns.

he's got to hang them up. he's been slipping for a while now, but this is the first time we've seen him in danger of losing simply due to the fact that he's physically diminished.
