Did he hurt him? Hmmmm face-palm yourself.
So what exactly won Canelo the fight???

Two possible theoretical explanations can account for his non-reaction during the post-fight interviews, which have been brought up in previous threads
1) His Christian faith, which was apparent from the Crucifixes he had on his trunks and fight robe inspired him to "turn the other cheek" at the injustice that he was held victim to.
2) He simply wanted to maintain his solid public image and by denouncing the decision, he would burn bridges with fans and promoters alike. At the end of the day, Boxing is a hard career and fighters need to be adequately compensated for it. An already relatively unknown fighter in Trout publicly denouncing the decision in favor of an extremely popular star in Canelo could possibly mean less profit for him...Comment

I thought the right guy won but I would have preferred a draw. Bottom line is that Trout outworked him and won more rounds, but he landed nothing meaningful and he got knocked down. Cant really argue with the decision, although the scorecards were awful. I thought the Showtime crew had their cards about right. I personally had the Al Bernstein score but I could pretty easily see the point up for Canelo considering all of the particulars and he was the "home" fighter and is the bigger draw. I lost $100 on Trout too.Comment

Very good post.I, too, have a great appreciation for B-Hop's virtuosity.
Trout's Ring Generalship wasn't only apparent in his overall greater work rate. It was ALSO apparent in how he was actively turning Canelo in the first one-third or so of the fight. However, when he saw what the judges were doing after the first 1/3rd of the bout, he had to become the aggressor, which he surprisingly excelled at considering that Canelo should have outright dominated at that point.
The pressure accompanied with the great work rate led to Trout DICTATING where the fight was occurring. Canelo was simply reacting to the positions he was being put in from the pressure and the work rate later in the fight. Simply put, CANELO DIDN'T CREATE THOSE POSITIONS HE WAS PUT IN FOR THE MOST PART, thus control of the ring has to be attributed to Trout...
I don't think one can seriously state that Canelo won rounds by ring generalship.
Letting the scorecards (especially the 118-109) aside, I think this fight told a lot about Canelo's ability.
An interesting, good young fighter who proved to be competitive with the best at 154, but by no stretch this monster capable of utterly humiliate and K.O. anybody they put in front of him.Last edited by B-Bomber; 04-21-2013, 03:49 AM.Comment

Syf gave the fight to Canelo. Boxing fans are split between amateur type scorers that look for volume and more pro type scorers that look for damage. Throw in defense to the more damaging fighter and it tips things in his favor. Pretty close fight but no robbery. Only thing wrong was the one wide score.Comment

Just watching the fight now, and Canelo won 3 out of the first 4 rounds if not all, he had more variety of punches, bodyshots , throwing uppercuts and bobbing and weaving whenever trout throws, the only thing landed so far by Trout is a jab.Comment
