What's that got to do with scoring? You don't get points for avoiding punches you get them for landing them.

Well technically, that's not true. Even though the judges usually overlook defense, it you're avoiding punches so much that it's become too obvious like in Canelo's case, you start awarding the guy points for standing there and slipping every punch. It's part of the Ring Generalship criteria. He was coming forward but unlike other aggressors, was ducking punches while landing some of his own in spurts.

Canelo was this fight, no controversy.

I had it 115 - 112 Trout. I could reasonably see it 114 - 113 Trout or maybe 114 - 113 Canelo but 115-112, 116-111 and 118-109 to Canelo are ridiculous...

I had it 115-112 Trout. A couple of really close rounds.At most I could see it as a draw. Canelo sat on his ass the whole fight.

I think Trout barely edged it, open scoring is what killed this fight. The fight was entertaining, but the open scoring definitely changes the behavior of the boxers. Either Alvarez' conditioning is terrible or he was holding back cause he knew he was way ahead. Trout took his victory humbly but really what would be the case in throwing a fit?? Goldenboy is doing a good job at selling Canelo I guess, this isn't necessarily the coming out party for Alvarez, where he was supposed to show what that he was the real deal. No matter who they put in front of him, the cards are in his favor one way or the other.
