The Hatton-Mayweather fight was anounced Aug 1st barely a week after Hatton beat Castillo which obviously means that the fight was as good as done before Hatton ever fought Castillo, as of Aug 15th Arum began discussing putting Cotto in with Mosley.

Then he immediately retired, after Cotto beat Mosley.

It was a very very very clear avoidance of Cotto.
You really don't think Arum/Floyd beefing had anything to do with it??? Really??? The second Cotto left Top Rank, the fight was made.

Why did Floyd want to fight Cotto from 2005-2006 while with Top Rank???

You can't pull the whole Toprank vs Goldenboy beef either... as Shane was obviously a partner at Goldenboy.
This is true...I was referring back @ 140 when they were both top 5 @ 140...Floyd tried to make the fight and Cotto wanted no parts then

You honestly think Floyd makes the decisions in his career? Al Haymon makes the calls. Al Haymon deals with Top Rank.

Floyd cares about where the money is, he stood to make more money and get a better cut against Hatton with 100% american PPV revenue than he stood to make against Cotto. Hatton was a much safer fight as well.

I am not knocking him, it was good business. But legacy wise he obviously avoided Cotto as he was too risky to his future early potential.

Floyds career is characterized by a typical Al Haymon managed fighters risk adverse behavior.

Considering Floyd chose to fight Henry Brusles, then Arturo Gatti (who was obviously bigger money than Cotto) I seriously doubt that he tried to make such a low reward high risk fight.

Also, since Floyd was still with Top Rank, he was not calling the shots. Bob Arum was, and Bob Arum is not in the habbit of matching Two developing commodities with each other. (Take Juanma vs Gamboa for example)

Hatton in Late 2007 was a better fight than Cotto. Hatton was Top 10 P4P, had been in the running to fight Floyd for a couple years. Cotto became a "big big fight" when he beat Mosley.

Floyd ended up fighting Cotto anyway, not prime but still good, while he was #1 at 154.

lol #1 and what exactly did cotto do at 154? that was clearly a hype ranking. he was nowhere near #1 in resume or "fantasy skill"

Well usually fighters who've done something in the weight classes below tend to get a higher ranking after moving into another weight class. It's been like this for decades.

Who was a better fight at 154 in May 2012 than Cotto???

Come on im not even a floyd fan like that but comparing Rigo to his resume is laughable. Rigo needs to take out mares, go up fight garcia, gomboa and then we will compare resume's. Buster Douglas win over an undefeated tyson is one of the greatest wins of all time but doesn't mean his resume is better then somebody like Rid**** Bowe.

i think the TS is not comparing resumes.
he's comparing the one rigo fight vs donaire TO floyd vs any of floyds previous opponents.

                      simply..

Rigo vs Donaire > Floyd vs [X]

                      i think
