Boxing purists may love the mobile Cuban counter-puncher but he's just not going to capture the imagination of the American public.
That's because he only knows how to sell fighters with a built in fanbase like Oscar, Marco Antonio, Erik Morales, etc. Bob has shown this exact type of laziness in the past.

Then to start taking away from one of the biggest Ws of the decade? Its horrible promotion. At least shut up about it if you don't know how to hype it lol

Maybe he was trying to limit the damage to Donaire, someone who can bring money in and will do so again in the future. It's not fair of course, but it is business.

Donaire wants to take a break anyways, and has made more than enough excuses for himself without Bob crapping on Guillermo..

hmm, I would think you would do very bad in business management

its simple, rigo for me is top 3 p4p with martinez and ward based on performances and the quality of their recent win but you have to remember, if donaire brings more bums to seats than rigo, therefore brings more money to the stable in which match ups can be made for 2 of his fighters, bob is doing the right thing

you need to think a little instead of jumping on the bandwagon

as sad as it is, rigo will never be a star in the media because of his style, thats what counts sadly in this sport. Just look at floyd, the dude ducked the best for years, is not even top 3 p4p, no way near based on performances and resume, yet has used the media to make him look far better than he is by pretending he has faced the best when in fact he has faced more paper ranked foes than anyone lol

The Weebler is spot on in this one. A lot of people hated that fight the other night, and they blamed Rigo for it. I was actually surprised at how many people I spoke to who said the fight was a stinker. You can call them philistines all you want but you still won't get them paying for a Rigo fight in the future.

you can hype that win til the cows come home, rigo still won't put butts in the seats, or be a potential headliner for small ppv, the way donaire could ahve been down the road.

rigo will do big numbers on hbo, though, and along those lines arum will pull in a decent amount on rigo fights.

making money off of rigo will actually come from not promoting him hard. boxing fans know him. casual fans will never care, no matter how much money you invest into promoting him. he's a 122 lb cuban who speaks no english and frankly has very little outward personality. cubans have never really sold.

the style, the personality, everything would go out the window if he were american or mexican. he'd be a much bigger draw, and easier sell. sad, but true.

arum has his hands full promoting this guy. as hard as it is to understand, he doesn't promote guys to please boxing fans. he does this to make money.

it's an unfortunate reality, but it's a reality. we've got to be realistic with rigondeaux. he's damn good at boxing, but he's not good "for boxing."

boxing needs casual fans. hardcore fans alone do not even come close to paying the bills.

So why do fans get so mad when fighters try and leave or talk smack about Bob? Bob already has Brandon and Julio Cesar to sell. So spread the wealth.
Gamboa would've sold IMO if Bob would've made him the Juan Lopez bout, but he kept him as far away from him as possible and matched him up with guys Juan beat in order to gauge them.

When Yuriorkis sparked out Rogers, the fight should've been signed there. bob knew what was up though.

Bob Arum is balancing Rigo's win with Donaire's loss. He knows Donaire is a far more marketable asset and is doing his best to downplay the loss. That's promotion 101. Donaire will make Arum far more money than Rigo.
