I picked Rigo to win and won points and $$$$. But believe me I was nervous as hell thinking that Donaire had the ability to KO him in a second. After midway through the fight I started calming down. Even when Donaire knocked him down in the 10th I could see Rigo wasn't really hurt. He just composed himself and continued with the schooling.
the fact that most people on here thought Rigo was going to get KTFO

Like I said before the fight, when people are expecting a specific punch to not only land often, but also KO a fighter, it rarely happens. The dynamics of a fight do not allow that to happen often. Before the fight I said if Rigo beats Donaire, he belongs in the top 10 PFP. He is there now thats for sure. He reminds me of Pernell Whitaker in some way. So he is not a barnburner fighter, he is a stylist and a superb one. All a fighter has to do is stay in their envelope and do what they do best and rack up the wins. I don't see him burning out like some fighters with few fights at the Pro level. Jeff Fenech did great. Davey Moore and David Reid were not polished enough to turn back the likes of Duran, Trinidad and they took flush shots often. Not the case with Rigo.Comment

Marroquin also got knocked on his ass twice and nearly koed. Rigo would have done same to donaire if he forced it more. This is true but don't think Rigo is unbeatable. I think the biggest mistake on Doanires part was giving Rigo too much respect.
If you look at the Marroquin fight, he came forward. Yes he was knocked down but he hurt Rigo twice because he was more aggressive.
Donaire thought he could box with Rigo and play his game, he was wrong. When Doanire pressured in the last 3 rounds, he did much better but it was too little too late.
Who knows what would have happened but I don't think Rigo is unbeatable, I think a rugged, strong chinned pressure fighter can give him trouble.
Leo Santa Cruz anyone?Comment

Very much so.Originally posted by SoggyLungsrigo was landing big left hands to donaire's chin almost all night and he never went down...only person that got sent to the canvas that night was rigo fro ma short left hook on the inside...donaire's chin is solid.
I think any other 122 pounder gets stopped in the 12th, if they are in the same situation as Nonito found himself.
For all the "non-punching" Rigo was doing, he did throw with lethal intent. Those weren't snowballs he was hitting Donaire with.Comment

He definitely respected rigos power.Originally posted by SoggyLungsrigo was landing big left hands to donaire's chin almost all night and he never went down...only person that got sent to the canvas that night was rigo from a short left hook on the inside...donaire's chin is solid.Comment

I would love to know how much nonoto weighed on the night of the fight. I think that helped him out a lot as far as him not getting KO'ed.Comment

I was one of the people that thought Donaire would beat Rigo by KO. Up until Saturday night, Rigondeaux never really impressed me as a pro. He always had speed and great footwork, but always seemed to look less than impressive when faced with his biggest challenges. I thought Ricardo Cordoba was able to outbox him and Marroquin gave him a tougher than expected fight. He stepped it up when it mattered though. Truly looked like the best 122 pounder in boxing this past weekend.
He's come a long way since the Cordoba fight a couple years ago.Comment

I know that you had Rigondeaux beating Donaire before the fight, I was slightly edging Donaire in a decision. But i'm just saying, if you really felt this way, you should have made a thread saying this exact same thing about boxing fans before the fight, not wait after the fight happens to say "I told you so".Comment

I really thought it was a 50/50 fight. It took an elbow roll sucker punch on the break by Nonito to even land a meaningful blow. Then Rigo gets right back up and proceeds to school him more the rest of the round. I did not expect to see a near shutout. Man that was a great fight...thrilling stuff.Comment
