Why the **** isn't this a title fight? Just so you can try to make some more coin on each "champion"? Pathetic.

How will this be a 12 round fight without being sanctioned?

If Matthysse wins he goes on to fight Garcia without having to drop the IBF strap he just won off Peterson due to the WBC not allowing unifications. If the IBF belt was on the line in the Peterson fight GBP would be forced to have one of their fighters drop a belt (Matthysse) in order to fight for another one (Garcia's WBC).
If Peterson beats Matthysse things get a little more complicated because isn't the winner of Matthysse-Garia supposed to fight Garcia? They still end up dropping a belt...unless...GBP does the same thing again for Peterson, have him fight Garcia without any belt on the line LOL. I've never seen a sport this crazy.
If Peterson wins, he keeps his IBF belt and nothing changes. Matthysse is still interim WBC champion and Garcia's mandatory.
If Matthysse wins, still nothing changes. Peterson is still IBF champion and Matthysse is still Garcia's mandatory.
Unless the WBC does some dumb **** which they are known to do.
If belts were on the line:
If Peterson, won, he keeps his IBF title and Matthysse loses his WBC mandatory
If Matthysse won, he becomes IBF champion and relinquishes his position as Garcia's mandatory.
To me, by doing it this way, Matthysse keeps his spot as Garcia's mandatory no matter what happens. Unless the WBC screws him over.

If Matthysse wins they don't want one of their fighters (Matthysse) to have to drop the IBF strap in order to fight Garcia for the WBC belt.
If Peterson wins they are still going to have to drop that IBF strap. But this way, the chances are cut in half. If Mattysse wins he goes on to fight Garcia and doesn't have to drop a belt he just won leaving GBP out on the cold where the IBF strap is concerned. GBP will still have one of their fighters holding the IBF belt (Peterson) who can still live to fight another day as a belt holding alphabet champion.
They are cutting the chances in half that the promotion as a whole will have to drop the IBF belt. It'll only happen if Peterson wins and only if they end up making the Garcia-Peterson fight which at this point is no guarantee.

Sounds like the WBC is controlling who is a champ and who isnt, even with other belt organizations as well as GBP making fake champs who lose fights but keeps belts.Originally posted by PBP View PostNo it works like this...

Peterson winning complicates things because it's a tournament. In a tournament the winners advance to fight each other. If he wins then he is supposed to be fighting the winner of Garcia-Judah...but stranger things have happened.
I don't understand why they are having a tournament if Matthysse gets to fight Garcia after a loss to Peterson. I understand that Matthysse is Garcia's mandatory but if he loses to Peterson how do you throw him in there with Garcia to get a title shot after a loss...in a tournament no less.Last edited by Kenny Blankenship; 04-08-2013, 08:12 PM.

This all goes back to one thing...Garcia should have been fighting Matthysse for the WBC belt from the get go. Everybody was asking for it, everybody wanted to see it. He's also his mandatory. You couldn't ask for anymore as a promoter, everything lines up.
Instead we get two fight that don't make sense, that aren't for any belts and that are 141 lb catch weights. Oscar and Schaeffer make Bob Arum look like a saint. Seems like the "I'm here to clean up the sport of boxing" Oscar left the scene a long time ago.
