Mattysse probably doesn't want to lose his mandatory status with the WBC should he win. the WBC should strip him of his interim belt if he won the IBF strap

      Seems kind dumb.

I have never put any merritt into belts since I became a boxing fan though. Everyone knows who the top guys and best guy is usually anyways.

What will probably end up happening is that if either of these guys beats Garcia, the sanctioning organizations will make him pick a belt, allowing Garcia to keep the other. Unless they make the Garcia fight at a catchweight, too. Who knows, Golden Boy are some greedy scumbags.

Who cares? 2 guys we wanna see fight are fighting. Belts are worthless cause some non belt holders are considered great while some champions are considered weak

You could do that. If you had the right money and promoters, potentially 118lb guys could fight for a HW title. That is how corrupt boxing is as I understand, but some sanctions do have a certain weight limit a month before etc... so I could be wrong.
That's a "funny" way to look at it. But it shows how messy boxing is or corrupt as you said.

The whole thing stinks. It's yet another reason why the world would be better off if the de****able WBC disappeared forever.

I understand why someone would be angry about this, but I care about belts far less than most people. They haven't held any prestige for anyone other than fighters for a long time.

Now, if Matthysse were to come out and say that he hates this, that he wants Peterson's belt, and that he doesn't like Golden Boy screwing him out of this chance, I'd change my tune. Fighters take belts much more seriously than fans. I'm assuming he agreed, though.
This whole thing just doesnt make sense. First of all by not defending the IBF title Peterson (I think) wont pay a sanctioning fee to them. Why would they be ok with that? Also They are officially moving up a division and im not 100% sure but doesnt the mando lose his spot if he moves up a division?

If they wont be allowed to unify with the IBF anyway, then why would it matter if the title was the on the line. Im sure lucas would rather win it, then drop it to fight Garcia, then not win it at all and just let Peterson keep it.

Sounds like the WBC is controlling who is a champ and who isnt, even with other belt organizations as well as GBP making fake champs who lose fights but keeps belts.

I think the reason GBP is doing this is for Peterson to keep his belt if he loses.

Peterson holds the IBF strap and if I'm not mistaken Matthysse doesn't hold a belt.

If Matthysse wins he goes on to fight Garcia without having to drop the IBF strap he just won off Peterson due to the WBC not allowing unifications. If the IBF belt was on the line in the Peterson fight GBP would be forced to have one of their fighters drop a belt (Matthysse) in order to fight for another one (Garcia's WBC).

If Peterson beats Matthysse things get a little more complicated because isn't the winner of Matthysse-Garia supposed to fight Garcia? They still end up dropping a belt...unless...GBP does the same thing again for Peterson, have him fight Garcia without any belt on the line LOL. I've never seen a sport this crazy.

The thing that really doesn't makes sense is why is Matthysse taking this fight if none of their belts are on the line? Matths only has an interim belt which means very little; he wants to be a full champion. Which I thought was why he was fighting Peterson?

From Peterson's perspective it makes sense. Even if he loses, he'll keep his belt and be able to guarantee fights off that alone. But all this is just so disgusting.

It's so damned dirty, it's unbelievable what the promoters are doing and can do.
