At welter weight I give the edge to FMJ. I think his size and athleticism gives him advantages at welterweight. At light weight, I think Duran steam rolls FMJ.
The gap between DeJesus and Mayweather really is not as big as you are making it out too be, resume and skill wise Mayweather is greater but you are not giving DeJesus enough credit, he was a beast, great footwork, great offensive arsenal / great combination puncher, defense wasn't too shabby, great sense of distance, good chin and knew how to tie up when he was in danger, all the makings of a great.
I agree with you, Mayweather has achieved more, but don't sleep on DeJesus, he wasn't exactly a slouch and comparing him too Ruben Carter is silly, DeJesus had a respectable career, Carter just beat a Griffith who was known for being inconsistent in his performances and did naught else, that's just a little different from beating a Prime Duran and giving him 3 incredible, tough fights and going on too still have a pretty good career.
I'm not comparing him to Ruben Carter. I am merely pointing out that the fact DeJesus has a better win than anything Mayweather has done doesn't make him the greater or better of the two and used that as an example. Of course, DeJesus is leagues above Ruben Carter.
I know all about DeJesus. I watched DeJesus fight in his prime, he was a very good fighter. HOF calibur and perhaps an ATG Lightweight. I wouldn't argue with anyone who considered him that.
Not once have I implied that DeJesus is not everything you described him as. Not once have I implied that he isn't a good fighter and I said a few times that he's HOF calibur.
All I'm saying is he isn't in Mayweather's league, which, he isn't.
DeJesus was very good but he's certainly not an ATG.
Leonard didn't choose to "fight" Duran he was forced to fight him!! Just as Duran would force Floyd to fight or get his butt whipped on the ropes! I think Mayweather could hang in for 9 or 10 rounds, maybe! But Floyd doesn't have the power to keep the strong welters off him. He's not a hard puncher and he gives away size and when your a counter guy you have no way to utilize your lack of size. He doesn't slip under to get off against the big guys he's gonna run. He's going to get hit and get hit hard! He barely got the better of Cotto and Cotto is a second to third tier fighter compared to Duran or Leonard! When you talk greats Floyd is NOT a welter, theres alot of welters that are in front of him. Ray.
Im changing my opinion with the pac vs duran as well...duran I think beats every welter weight this era with moderate ease...he'd force Floyd to fight at a pace so intense that Floyd would have to move constantly inwhich moneys defense ability would be stunted...his shoulder roll would be useless after the 2 round..a pac...he'd walk three in 3..srl is probaby the only fighter at welter weight can take Wat duran gives and dish it back...
I saw that Estaban De Jesus fight, and from that 1st rd KD he boxed brilliantly. Duran wasn't trained properly, but made up for it the next couple of times, even though the second fight was also a war where he was kD. I think I have them all on tape somewhere. taken from replays.
Apart from your Mayweather love-fest, let's be reasonable. De Jesus was a better fighter than Mayweather. People today don't know anything about him so your mentioning him is unfair.
As for the answer to the question "how would he do against the Duran who fought Leonard.."
Well, he'd do a nice funeral, and the caterers would do a lovely wake feast afterwards.

Is this some kind of a sick joke???? The Duran that fought Barkley, Leonard 1, Davy Moore, was MOTIVATED and a fire burned in him. Everyone who has ever followed Duran's career knows he was not at all motivated for the Kirkland fight. That fight made him realize he had to be in top form going forward.
So when I bring up facts about roberto duran's career to justify my picking floyd, you tell me I can't use them because posters don't know who dejesus was. Yet dejesus was better than floyd. All of duran's prime losses were against fighters with longer reach. that doesn't mean just because your reach is longer you can beat duran. But other than Hearns KO, all of durans prime losses were by UD to men with longer reach who outboxed him. I sense a pattern. So if you want to discuss this as fans I welcome it.
Then richardt blames a prime loss on duran not being motivated. I doubt duran's prime losses were from lack of motivation. It was from the long right hands from great boxers. BTW, Duran in the fights you mentioned weighed 160, 154, and 147. Why not just use prime 135 lb duran and prime 135 lb floyd?
I always welcome this discussion with any posters that actually know about duran's prime. If you're a clown like junior gong why even waste the time to type.
