lol and those are lies because Chavez Jr. was by far the biggest draw on HBO the last two years...
from an article on yahoo:
There was an article posted on this site about the TV ratings and I think Chavez Jr. had like 3 of the top 5 spots. It also was watched by the fourth-most viewers in 2012. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who was once ridiculed as an overhyped sensation, holds down the top spot and is tied for second. Chavez's Feb. 4 bout with Marco Antonio Rubio drew 1.9 million live viewers, according to an HBO spokesman. The Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson bout on April 28, which was a rematch of a horrendous pay-per-view flop from 2011, and the June 16 Chavez-Andy Lee match, each attracted 1.6 million live viewers.
The numbers prove one thing: HBO Sports is still, far and away, the dominant force when it comes to boxing on television. The largest live audience for a Showtime fight in 2012 was the June 23 bout in Los Angeles between Victor Ortiz and Josesito Lopez, which drew 740,000 live viewers. That means that every HBO main event in 2012 drew a minimum of 25 percent more viewers than the best Showtime fight.
At a time when boxing repeatedly takes broadsides for being on a downward trend, it's nice to see positive news over the long haul. It's proof if the right fights are made, and promoters make a good faith effort to spread the word, the fans will tune in.Comment

I understand the position both the companies are in, and GB are seemingly in a position of strength at the moment. A monopoly by any promoter or a promoter working with a manager is bad for the sport and unworkable in a practical sense as they will end up having to cut their cake even smaller. This will swing round and swing back again.I don't really care where I watch boxing, GBP is a for profit business just like HBO/Time Warner, CBS/Showtime or Top Rank. All of them are out for their own interests.
You just don't seem to get the position both companies are currently in, GBP is in position to get taken advantage of while Top Rank is in position to take advantage of HBO, which being for profit ventures I would expect to see somewhat.
Floyd's deal doesn't mean much because Floyd pays for Floyd until proven otherwise.Comment

That's what I thought. HBO will be fine. They have 6 of the top 10 pound for pound fighters in the world. Seven if they start showing Klitscko again. Then they have GGG, Rios, possibly Gamboa and a lot of solid prospects in the Top Rank camp.Comment

They also want to broadcast Sergey Kovalev's next fight against one of the 175 champs.
This was a good read actually.Comment

OscarDeLaHoya: Its funny how Arum is saying @GoldenBoyBoxing played HBO, when he's the one who took Pacquiao to @SHOsportsComment

When somebody like Viloria is damn adamant on being showcased on HBO you could say that is true for every other boxer out there. People need to understand HBO is a brand name in boxing. People practically grew watching boxing on HBO. These fighters under GBP must feel really f**** hard in the ass on this latest development.
GBP put all their eggs on the Mayweather brand, a brand not beholden to anyone but to Floyd Jr. alone. In the end GBP will lose a lot of opportunities, as well as Showtime. Only Floyd wins because he's got the guarantee.
Poor Canelo. Poor Broner.Comment
