A supreme athlete like Toney? Really?
Hagler was a monster, his conditioning was insane, he was in ridiculous shape and had an iron will and chin. I love Bhop, the guy really is the ancient master and all that, but Hagler would have mauled him I don't care what anyone says. Might not have knocked him out, but he would beat him around the ring for 12, or 15 like Hagler used to go.
Toney would smoke check Bhop also, Toney is a legitimate throwback fighter not just a crafty smart guy who knows the tricks of the trade and a little old school flavor, Toney fights at any weightclass, anywhere, the guy can come off the couch and go 12 rounds.Comment

Toney was an underrated athlete at MW. Plus he had the skills to match. I think Hopkins/Toney is 55/45 for Hopkins @ MW.A supreme athlete like Toney? Really?

Hagler does absolutely no such thing to B-Hop.Comment

nobody is mauling Hopkins. No one in history. He's more fragile now but in his prime he was the guy who mauled people.A supreme athlete like Toney? Really?

Now I agree that some on here seem to be underestimating Hagler. He was a beast. Still, past fighters arent always better and I have always felt that prime for prime, Id take Hokpins over Hagler but its up for debateComment

I'm not underrating Hagler at all. I just think guys like Hopkins, RJJ, and Toney beat him. So sue me.nobody is mauling Hopkins. No one in history. He's more fragile now but in his prime he was the guy who mauled people.

edge Hagler.
Marvin couldn't get a title fight forever and when he finally did got the BS draw with Vito. He was the lineal and 2 belt holder from the time he beat Minter.
Bhop's 1st title and his defenses from 94-2000 were in the newly formed IBF,an organization that didn't exist until 1983.
Respectfully, without the IBF bhop may never have held a world title during that time.
I will concede some bias because Hagler is my favorite, but Hagler was the lineal champ for all those years-bhop was lineal for only 4 yrs.
but bhop's wins in higher weight classes is pretty damn impressive.Comment

I think Hagler was the better fighter, and his reign was plenty impressive in its own right. He beat better fighters while ruling middleweight than Hopkins, and was probably the best middleweight in the world for a couple of years beforehand. At least from what I've read. Wasn't alive to know for myself, obviously.Comment

If you think Hopkins would win, fine, but to say Hagler's only chance is a KO is straight bull****. Not unless you are getting some of the ****ty judges Hagler's had to deal with in his career to judge the fight.Comment

I like Hopkins, but his career longevity is due, in part, to cheezing his way through fights with "hit and hold", dirty techniques, etc. I just can't give him as much credit or respect as a guy like Hagler who truly battled his way to victory. Head to head, I can see Hopkins winning this fight, but not without resorting to the aforementioned tactics.Comment
