I know that Calzaghe lost just 1 amateur fight, Sugar ray Robinson had an 85-0 record, Laszlo Papp had a 312-6 record. Also several of the Soviet boxers had terrific records in the 300-10 region.

He obviously meant the Olympics, he was talking about Ward being a gold medallist.

I'm pretty sure he got stopped by Garry Russell Jr in the amatuers hence why he never made the Olympic team.

Not to try and defend Floyd or anything here, but you all know damn well he didn't mean he had no amateur background at all. He clearly was alluding to the fact that Broner doesn't exactly have the amateur credentials of an Andre Ward type fighter with the Olympic gold, or really any major accolades besides the two that have been stated.

Broner had about 300 fights. Experience as an amateur can obviously be a big help but isn't essential. Hopkins is a boxing master and he never had an amateur background. loads of Mexicans that didn't either that's how a lot have loads of fights by an early age they basically learn their trade in the pro ranks

This is what I was thinking also. But Floyd talks so much **** you can't blame some for misinterpreting him.

Yeah Russell stopped him alright I think. It was pretty funny watching that Seckbach video a while ago of Gary and Broner together, when last year Russell was talking about Broner being a one-dimensional and limited fighter

He had over 300 fights and lost to Robert Marroquinn twice and so did Gary Russell Jr (who also beat Broner)

i think he was referring to the fact that broner didnt compete against the best in the world as an amateur. most of his 300 fights were as a kid or junior, so he wasnt even boxing grown men and very seldom (if ever) internationally.

floyd was talking money. from a money point of view broner doesnt have an amateur background. doesnt matter how many fights you had, if you havent won anything on an international level against grown men it wont get you much of a pro deal.

everything broner got he earned as a pro, as opposed to olympians like mayweather and ward who were highly touted and had promoters fighting over them before they boxed a single round without headgear.
