Is it true that Adrien Broner doesn't have an amateur background?

I was reading that post about Mayweather talkin sh-t about Ward and how Broner is more known than Ward even tho he doesn't even have an amateur background.

Now I know I'm gonna sound dumb as hell but so basically what he did was he vigorously trained boxing, learned all he can, and went straight to the professional ranks? Can you even do that? I thought you needed to do some amateur bouts before u went pro.

According to Boxrec: "Broner had an amateur record of 300-19".
    • 2002 and 2003 National Silver Gloves Champion
    • 2005 National Junior Olympics semifinalist

You don't have to do amateur to go pro. The list of successful pro boxers with no amateur background is too long to write down.

Right now, Canelo and Chavez Jr had little to no amateur experience, which is why they should get a break from people saying they have too many fights against bums. I understand that people have beef at them being handed the titles, but they had little to no amateur experience so they should get a pass in their early 20s with who they fight since the beginning of their pro career is basically their amateur background. A hybrid basically.

nah, it's not true. Broner had a pretty well-decorated am background of his own as a junior, just never made it to the Olympics (due to his foetal misdemeanours).

Yep. Floyd was talking out of his ass in that interview big time. He was offended to the max, by Ward not rooting for him.

That was most likely what Floyd meant to say, but the idiot talking fast and in the heat of the moment just said "amateur background" by mistake. Probably meant that Broner didn't even make it to the Olympics and still more popular than Ward.
