calzaghe was 110-10 as an amateur so he lost more than one fight, still a great record though and he won 3 ABA titles in a row stepping up in weight each time. very little international amateur experience though, i think lost to ronbin reid for an olympic spot.

donald curry (400-4) and mark breland (110-1) had excellent records too, and they boxed at the highest international level. curry missed out on the olympics because of the US boycott.

I don't think Floyd zero amateur background, meant the Olympic pedigree like Ward and himself. Broner had over 300 fights as a junior but never fought in the open division, meaning no fights after 16 years old.

Is Broner really more well known than Ward? There's some talk about him right now but I'm not really sure he is.

Yeah, he is. Ward is known only to hardcore boxing fans outside of the Bay Area, and he's also a Showtime fighter.

But don't read into that too much, because I think Ward actually likes it that way. He isn't trying to be a celebrity, just a champion. Broner is always trying to come up with stunts to up his popularity and be controversial.

Ward's much better known internationally alright, Broner's arguably better known in the US. Ward did 1.3M on HBO for the Dawson fight though so their numbers aren't really that different.

Hopkins never fought amateur? Thats amazing lol

Hopkins fought smokers in jail and had alot of boxing in the gyms! Its not like he went into pro boxing a green kid!

Over 300 bouts in the J.O. (junior olympics) is an awfull lot of junior bouts!!
My son won states and regionals and nationals during his J.O career and I'd guess he had 55 to 65 bouts. Thats alot of bouts for Adrian considering the lighter weight classes have less kids in them. Hard to believe that he had all the fights before the beginning of his 16th birthday!
