Martinez said he counts it as a loss. I think it doesn't matter either way, it was the beggining of his career, Like how pacquiao was Ko'ed by randoms in his beginning days

(if I'm not mistaken Williams only had 2-3 fights at that weight, he was a blown up welter)

And vs Chavez who's also a glorified slugger with no defense and slow as hell and was nearly ktfo? This is after Chavez smoked weed all camp

Those are his 2 best wins of his career and he is somehow top 3? Wtf?

He beat some European bums, he should get no credit for that..

                NO CLASS A FIGHTERS...

Some people have him above Ward, who has beat at least 3 world class fighters in Dawson, Froch and Kessler all by wide margins

Williams already had 3 fights at middleweight and was ranked as the top contender at 160. Martinez only had 2 fights (Williams I, Pavlik). Williams was also considered a top P4P fighter at the time and rightfully so.

Pavlik was undefeated at 160 and was the lineal champion at the weight. His only loss came against a Light Heavyweight (Hopkins) at 170. At 160 Pavlik's record was: 35-0-0 (32 KOs). Martinez actually moved up from 154 to dethrone the lineal middleweight champion; that was a big win.

By your ridiculous standards, I'm not sure if any fighter has an A level win.

as for Martinez, he presides over a mediocre (if competitively interesting) MW division.

yes, i feel he's overrated in some quarters, in that i don't see him as a 'great' or 'elite' fighter. he's definitely behind the categorically elite while being above the categorically not elite. he's very good, though, and has maximized his athletic abilities to strong effect.

yep, that AA meeting sure restored Pavlik to the fighter he was. all the technical and mental erosion was miraculously reversed.
