But a poor man who had it hard growing up, in terms if finances and what not, might not be physically the toughest guy. Being from somewhere doesn't make you physically tough. A lot of people from lower income areas like to holler a lot, but a lot times they aren't so much without their boys behind them. I saw this growing up and it's gotten terrible with this younger era of kids/young men.
And there's bad areas in every city, some more so than others and some worse than others. I'd live ANYWHERE in California before some cities in the Midwest.
I have seen countless times in the gym, kids that are built like brick houses, come in and think that's all they need to kick ass. Then they get hit in the face, and they don't like that at all.
Heart takes you a long way. There's a reason that so many tough fighters are from Mexico, Asia, Africa etc....Poor parts of the world where they aren't boxing for fun, they are boxing to eat.
I will take kids from the inner city and ****** any day over some pampered kid that just wants to box because it's a hobbie.
All of the kids I have in the gym are either black or Hispanic and it's not a coincidence. They are poor, grew up in the worst areas of Miami and you can see the difference.

I'll take our other huge city, LA, over it any day of the week.Last edited by Weebler I; 03-08-2013, 08:56 AM.

Expensive sure and that's a definite factor but if you can afford it...

I come from a low income neighborhood growing up, where 35-40% of the population in in poverty. I'm proud of that, but it doesn't define who I am.
And the original discussion here was these guys who say I'm from so and so, and that makes me tough, you don't want to f** with me. We weren't talking about mental toughness when this thread started, it was about these guys who think coming from rougher neighborhoods makes you physically tough, because it doesn't.
As far as mental toughness.....you don't have to come from a bad area to have mental toughness either.
