I remember the 2nd McCall fight, and I believe that right up to the fight McCall was in and out of the sanitarium, and had been taken out 6 weeks before the fight to train.. It was regarded as a shameful fight then, but Lewis was always very relentless when he was thwarted and wanted revenge on any terms, and pursued the fight. McCall had knocked him out in front of Lewis's home crowd, very embarrassing.
Its a mark of a great fighter to be relentless but in this case it was very inappropriate.Comment

No, McCall was hospitalized not long before the Lewis rematch.
His doctors advice was to NOT fight, because he was still in crack withdrawal, but Don King found a way to evade the authorities.

McCall was arrested in July 1996 on charges of possessing crack ******* and marijuana. The following month, he entered a drug rehabilitation center.
McCall was arrested again in December 1996 after he threw a Christmas tree in a hotel lobby and spat on a police car. Following the incident, McCall went back into rehab.
On December 18, 1996, at a press conference to officially announce the Lewis-McCall match, McCall's promoter, Don King, said McCall was in treatment but would be ready for the fight with Lewis. Dino Duva, promoter of the fight, said, "I have no reason to doubt (King's) words."
In April 1997, McCall was detained in a mental hospital after his wife took out an emergency custody order against him. He was evaluated by a mental health expert, who testified at a detention hearing that McCall was mentally ill and in need of hospitalization.Comment

You also decided to leave this out.
At a news conference the day after the fight. McCall tried to explain his actions. "My strategy was -- and I know it sounds kind of absurd -- was a kind of rope-a-dope," McCall said. He explained his crying by saying that he was trying to get himself into an emotional state. Dr. Leonora Petty, a psychiatrist, evaluated McCall for almost 90 minutes before the news conference and said, "I think his mental state is just fine." But McCall said she had also recommended that he see a psychiatrist, and he conceded he needed psychiatric help.Comment

Vitali Klitschko was a last minute replacement and retired Lennox. Not a good example of a "voluntary defense".
Golota was never any good. And why should 28-2 Golota be better than 28-0 Pianeta?
All against whom Wladimir fought, too (and won more convincingly, I might add).
26 yro it's hardly prime, rather pre-prime. Except for his gift decision against Foreman, Shannon Briggs at bout had a worse record than Pianeta now.
Or his former self.
Holyfield was 36-3 at bout (whole career) and 18-3 (his real heavyweight fights 200x2). Two fights Lennox barely won. Additionally Wlad fought Ibragimov and Chris Byrd, who both defeated Holyfield whereas Lennox lost to Rahman who lost to Holyfield.
Good domestic fight.
Why should Tua be a greater name than Haye or Sam Peter? Peter and Haye were world champs, Tua never was. Haye > Tua. Peter > Tua. And higher KOratios than Tua they had, too.
Why should 27-3(2) Ruddock be better than 28-0 Pianeta?
Good fight against 6'2'' Morrison.
Your list mainly features AMERICANS that's why Lennox record SOUNDS better.Last edited by hweightblogger; 03-06-2013, 08:37 PM.Comment

Hmm... how come you know?
It was a gift avenging.
Just this fight alone (Wlad vs McCall II) would put Klitschko haters into "laughing coma" and they would claim for approximately the next 15 centuries how Wlad's era ****** as proven by Oliver McCall.Last edited by hweightblogger; 03-06-2013, 08:36 PM.Comment
