Vitali's legacy

I think it lies more on his Head to Head ability. He is an absolute handful for any heavyweight in history.Comment

Maybe I haven't put it clear enough. What I meant was that as the fight was very competitive and it ended on cuts it leaves the room for various conclusions to be made.Of couse its more than TKO6. That is just the final result. But you're saying it ended in an "open" way and that conclusions can be drawn from that. This simply isn't true. Like it or not, Lewis was the more durable fighter that night and that is why he won. Kudo's to Vitaly for a hard fought battle, but he lost and there are no ifs, and or buts about it.
One can say, Lennox won with TKO6 on cuts or, as you said, that he was more durable guy - that's perfectly fine conclusion but it's only one that can be made. That's the beauty of this fight IMO. The outcome of the fight is not the ultimate and exclusive narrator of the fight and many behave as it is.Comment

Any fight can be onterpreted the way anyone see's fit. But the ending is the conclusion. Its fun to talk about, but nothing is changing so in the long rin its irrelevant.Maybe I haven't put it clear enough. Same thing is with any other sport. In football if you dominate the other team and score one goal out of 50 chances is not the same as if you defend the whole time and then score the goal on counterattack. It's even more pronounced in boxing.
Not that every fight can be explored like this one and not in this capacity that's for sure. Very few can...
Conclusion or some other synonyms - that wasn't really my point.
But I like the second definition with 'process' being the key word. That process was the key of this fight not just its ending/conclusion.
Anyhow I need to get some sleep now. Have some stuff to do in the early morning. Night and till tomorrow...Last edited by Simurgh; 05-02-2013, 06:42 PM.Comment

As we often do we'll have to agree to disagree. Have a good night my friend. There is nothing needing to be changed and it's very relevant IMO. It's not just for the fun sake.

The conclusion I came to was TKO6. Its also the only one that matters, and the one forever engraved in the record books.
You can wank off to the 2nd round all you want...means absolutely nothing. Every future boxing fan when they search Lennox Vitali will see the gruesome images in my sig and KNOW, it was more than just a little cut that stopped the fight. Vitali got ****ed up. Lennox beat everyone he faced.Comment

Lennox Lewis was a great champion and one of the very best hw's we've ever seen, but he should have offered Vitali the rematch instead of running scared. Not exactly cowardice, but definitely a duck from Lewis. I respect his decision to retire, but he will always be remembered for not giving Vitali the rematch, which is also part of his legacy. The conclusion I came to was TKO6. You cant Duck unless your an active boxer. Vitali is active and ducking David Haye like a little girl.Lennox Lewis was a great champion and one of the very best hw's we've ever seen, but he should have offered Vitali the rematch instead of running scared. If Vitali had retired after Chisora I think people would understand like they understood with Lennox. But Vitali is making false defenses of the belt against guys like Charr and stiverne who dont even crack the top 5. Vitali will be remembered as a ducker and bum beater. And as the loser of tko6.Comment

What a bunch of rubbish. Lewis already had plans to retire. He said he wanted one more super fight with wither Vits or Jones. The Bottle fight happened, he won, he followed through on his plans. Not rematching Vittles has nothing to do with his legacy except from butt sore Klit fans who need something to give them comfort. Lewis' legacy will be defeating everyone he fought as a pro and retiring as champion.Lennox Lewis was a great champion and one of the very best hw's we've ever seen, but he should have offered Vitali the rematch instead of running scared.
