    hell no
just how good do people think Martinez is?
Martinez is overrated as hell around here
beating him is good for anybody's resume, he's a solid fighter
but he doesn't vault anybody several spots ahead in ATG rankings
    Sergio's resume isn't spectacular, he's just a good fighter

I think the issue here is not so much a win over Martinez as much as going up to Middleweight (160) and becoming the lineal champion by beating the lineal champion. A bit like when Leonard moved up and beat Hagler and when Oscar/Trinidad tried something similar against Hopkins.

You do realize that a fan of boxing doesn't care what Floyd does or becomes. You have to be a Floyd fan to care! He fights so infrequently that he's become immaterial to real boxing fans! He makes boxing closer to pro Wrestling, he's taken the fareness and honesty away! Champions fight their contenders along with giving "joe blow" a shot at a 10 rounder once in a while! This guys been cherry picking for many years now! He's a bore! Ray

Hagler and Hopkins had higher stature at the peak of their MW reigns
Martinez is the champ, but he's not a great champ
the title itself is nice, but it's more about the man who holds it
hell, Floyd won the lineal WW title, but he beat Carlos Baldomir for it
nobody rates that in Floyd's best wins list
Martinez is obviously much better than that, but you get the point
even if Floyd did win the legit MW title, no way he's top 10 ATG
the fighter nor the accolade is great enough to warrant that for him

But keep discrediting him because it keeps the legend growing.

right now he is probably top 30-35,with a win for the lineal mw title it would have to move him to top 10-15

                  Thought that was common knowledge.
yep to be in the top 10 you have to have fights in black and white

I didn't give an opinion, I'm only putting things in perspective. Martinez is probably a borderline HOF and may very well retire as one, but a win over him is obviously not on par with one over Hopkins or Hagler, I would have to be mentally ill to think that. However, his legacy at middleweight is still building and his lineal middleweight reign may very well last longer than Hopkins'--he's certainly close. A Floyd win against Martinez at 160 would be a huge feat. I don't think it would make him a top 10 ATG as the thread title asks, but it would certainly open up the debate.

understand what you're saying, just don't agree
if Floyd had a better resume than he does now, it would help
but what he has now puts him nowhere near top 10 ATG
Floyd's best wins were over 10 yrs ago
he hasn't done enough for even a lineal MW title to put him that high up
