When Donaire fought Naravez, Rigo was some random dude in a division above Donaire's with 7 fights with no belt while Narvaez was the #1 guy in the division below him. Should he have fought Rigo over Narvaez then? When Donaire's fight with Vazquez Jr was made, Rigo was still some random dude with 8 fights with no belt. His only fight against a top guy was disgraceful performance against Cordoba where he ran all night. A fight with Vasquez Jr brought a vacant belt. Should Donaire have fought Rigo over Vasquez Jr? Mathebula and Rigo are essentially the same popularity wise. Nobody gives a **** either way. And at least Mathebula had a good fight where many people thought he won against Cabellero, who was unified p4p champ at the time. The difference between Mathebula and Rigo is that Mathebula didn't ask for as much money as Rigo. Why fight Rigo for a smaller paycheck? And now he just fought Nishioka, the #1 guy in the division, making him the the ring champ. Why the hell should he have fought Rigo?
Donaire/Rigondeaux = Ward/Bute

To fair to Bute's chin, he took a heck of a lot punishment from Froch (who's a big puncher) before he went down. His chin seemed to be stronger than Dawson's at 168 for sure. I don't think Ward has the power to have taken down Bute as easily as Froch did, even if Ward beat Froch. It's why I don't mind if Ward still fought Bute regardless of his loss.Comment

How many times in this sport do was pass judgment based on a fight we felt was similar? If in fact Donaire ever balls-up and defeats Rigondeaux I highly doubt you'll be back here tooting your horn on how similar it was to Froch/Bute. Remember that. Your possible correct pick won't always result in kudos.Comment

Nobody was talking Froch Bute, it's about Bute being a hyped challenger to proven champ Ward. Worst case its not Froch Bute, probably a lot less exciting. How many times in this sport do was pass judgment based on a fight we felt was similar? guillermo should fight them. why not? i don't know why some people make it seem as if others feel like rigondeaux shouldn't fight them i don't think anyone feels like that the only thing i wanna know is why is nonito so dismissive of guillermo.guillermo is a champion at a weight class that donaire has just moved up to and alot of people want to see them fight and before moving up people were starting to feel like donaire was picking on smaller fightersI'd like to see Rigondeaux fight Agbeko or Darchinyan, or even a Shimoda or Ndlovu wouldn't be bad. They're Top 10.
Too bad Carl Frampton doesn't want to fight Rigondeaux. Rigo said he'd go to Belfast to fight Frampton.
Donaire-Rigondeaux will never happen. It's like Canelo-Lara in terms how likely it is that it could happen.Last edited by letsgobrady; 10-15-2012, 11:53 PM.Comment

i agree with you bute was ranked at the top and was thought to be a great fighter and he was undefeated so ward beating bute would of been a great win to me just like it was for froch. as for bute just because he lost to froch doesn't mean hes a bum we have to wait and seeMan, Ward should have taken that Bute fight right away. He let that easy big paycheck get away from him. Should have taken that 0 before anyone else did. Froch got a ton of credit for that Bute win and so would have Ward. There was no need for Bute to build himself up more. He was already a megastar in Canada and as popular in the US as he was probably ever going to get. Sure, he wasn't as proven against real top elite fighters (although he had several top 10 wins), but he already bought a lot money to the table and that's the main thing that matters.
Ward should have just fought Dawson when he's ready to move up to 175. He's not getting as much credit for Dawson as much as he would have if he fought him at 175.Comment
