In an HBO-televised attraction, the 29-year old Donaire overcame a listless effort from his Japanese foe early on before dropping him with a left uppercut in the sixth round while ending matters three rounds later following another knockdown, this one coming from a brisk counter right hand.

He didn't go running, he knew the round was lost, so he chose not to engage the rest of the round. It was a flash knockdown, he was stepping, and the force of the punch made him misplace his foot, he didn't actually go down, just touched a glove. Wasn't wobbled, wasn't hurt.

If you watch the rest of the fight, he fought the exact same he fought the first half of the fight.

I mean in round 8 for example, you see on camera close up Rigondeaux slip 7 or 8 punches without so much as grazing contact, and Max imediately spouts off, "Rigondeaux is getting hit much more than he was before!", when you can see with your own eyes that he just got hit with 0 punches. In that same round, one that Rigondeaux EASILY won, Lampley compared it to Cotto Margarito, claiming that Rigo was just trying to survive.

The only difference between the first half and the second is the tone of the commentary. HBO was trying to create a dramatic situation where none existed.

He totally went running the rest of the fight after getting dropped. I don't care for nitpicking, not watching it again. Even you must admit it was awful tv.

I already said it was a boring fight, but Rigondeaux dominated the fight. It wasn't even remotely close, and a SD was disgraceful.

And neither does Rigo cause to become undisputed, Rigo has to beat Mares, someone he never calls out.

                  • Donaire........I like you but I do think that Rigondeaux would provide a "competitive fight"

Donaire: "He only has 11 fights"
Me: "He is already a champion that no one wants to fight after only 11 fights"

By resigning with TR, he put all his chips in on Donaire. But even so Vic or Agbeko will fight him, or other non GBP.
