Rigondeaux is one of the most skilled technicians to ever lace up the gloves, period.
Dude when will you learn, amateurs mean very little in the pros. just look at some of the Cuban pros:

Yan Barthelemy, olympic gold, pro washout
      Despaigne
      Yudel Jhonson
      Luis Franco, beat Gamboa twice

All these guys were hugely successful as amateur, pretty underwhelming as pros so far, at best

I accept my crow, and you owe Rios a heartfelt apology.

I may just change my screen name to Mr. Soothsayer now.

In the future, let's look for eachother for a sizeable points bet. I've enjoyed this.
For sure. It's all good, it's all boxing and that's why we fight the fights.

Man, if Rios comes in looking healthy for a fight, you know something aint right. Coming in looking sick is like a Rabbits foot for him.

Jorge Luis Gonzalez was a decorated amateur who beat Rid**** Bowe and Bowe crushed him in the Pros and Gonzalez never mounted to much as a Pro as well. As you said, a great Pro career is not guaranteed from a great or good amateur career.

Barthelemy has no chin, but Jhonson and Franco just started their career, actually Franco was just robbed in an eliminator in his 12 fight, amateurs is a great foundation to have, or is only when it fits your need? Why Canelo and Chavez are fighting bums all their life? Or they don't have amateur experience... I forgot

Of those guys that you listed, only Barthelemy was a standout Amateur, and he had started to lose wayyyy before he defected. Combine his diminishing skills with his lack of punching power, and you have a recipe for poor performance in the pro ranks.

None of them were hyped up like Gamboa or Rigondeaux. None of them were ever considered the best Amateurs in the world, most of them have shown poor discipline in the US, and have showed up to fights out of shape.

Gamboa and Rigondeaux were the two standouts when they defected. Rigondeaux got caught and sent back to cuba, where he was held under watch until he managed to successfully defect as well.

They both grew up in the gym with some of the most talented fighters on the planet. Cubans are no joke. They are bred to fight...

I agree it's great foundation for pro success, but it's no guarantee. I don't mean to go hard on the Cubans, just seemed more relevant, like Franco beating Gamboa twice. I'm not saying him or Jhonson are failures in the pros, both are pretty good, but I knew Franco wasn't gonna be p4p after seeing him vs Miranda. But I could have mentioned Audley, Abdullaev, even Khan, lots more.

I've only been able to find references to both Rigondeaux and Gamboa beating Franco in the cuban nationals.

The only words I have found about him beating Gamboa come from the mouth of Gary Shaw. Not exactly what I would call a reliable source of information.

You don't have to tell me Cubans are serious fighters. My point is, world class Cuban (and other) amateurs get beat by guys with no or very little amateur experience all the time. Yudel was an olympic silver Medalist. Ugas lost this year to a caveman. Despaigne lost to the guy that got koed in 1 by Don George.
