  • Serious question. How is Martinez/Floyd the same as Martinez/Ward?

I see a certain fanbase claiming its the same. So I have a few questions to set this debate straight.

How many times has Martinez competed at 168??

How many titles has Martinez held at 168??

Has Floyd ever competed at 154??

Has Floyd ever held titles at 154??

Why can't Floyd & Martinez meet at 154 to fight??

How does a certain fanbase claim that Martinez moving to 168 is the same as a 2 time champion at 154 (Floyd) fighting Martinez at 154??

They aren't the same at all. As one sided as I believe it would be I would love to see Martinez challenge himself with a Ward fight, but he has never fought at 168, doesn't seem to want to, and Ward isn't moving down.

Mayweather is at 154, and Martinez is willing to move down. That's nothing the same.

Floyds last fight was at 154 and he is the current and reigning 154 champion, making the fight at 154 seems perfectly acceptable to me.

If Martinez wants a catch weight, then its fair to open up the catch weight debate about him moving up 4lbs, even thought he looked small at 160, to take on the likes of Ward.

Lets stick to weight classes and 154 makes perfect sense for this fight to happen.

I have noticed the floyd mongs who blindly spout crap on his behalf are in a bit of a tail spin after watching Sergio on the weekend. I reckon some of them even know in their hearts that Floyd is going to run back to 147 and they cant wait because the pressure is building on them and their precious Floyd

This is ridiculous, people just can't get over that Floyd is a bit too small to be fighting Martinez. He's not even big for a welterweight. Martinez shouldn't be weight jumping anyway, we've all seen the ramifications of such, especially at his age.

Of course I'll get attacked saying that I'm "afraid" to see Floyd fight Martinez, which is not the case at all. Just trying to talk some common sense, because people on this site are so ******edly obsessed with seeing Floyd lose. Floyd should fight Pac.

I also don't think Martinez should move up and fight the best Super middleweight either.

In terms of how many fights each have had there, it's not the same.

But in terms of size, Floyd is a solid WW right now. Not big at the weight, but solid. He's very under sized at 154, he's a very smaller fighter there.

Sergio is a solid MW right now. Not big at the weight, but solid there. He's yet to go up to 168 and risk being very under sized there and being a very small fighter there compared to every other guy there.

But with Sergio supposedly fighting again at 154, I don't see why people think he can make that weight healthy. He hasn't fought there in what will be 4 years by 2013, and though he didn't mention a CW specifically when talking about a Cotto fight, he said they'd have to agree on a weight, suggesting a weight between 154 and 160. I think people realize that by the time he's 38 early next year and not fighting at 154 in 4 years, that he'd struggle to make weight healthy there. People complained when Dawson went down to 168, and he had been there before, said he could mae 168 fine, but he hadn't been there in 5-6 years. It's like saying Floyd in 2009 could have went down to 140 healthy and been the same fighter, even though he hadn't been there in 4 years by that point, and Floyd isn't a big WW just like Martinez isn't a really big MW.

I honestly think people just want to see Floyd beaten up by a fighter who's much bigger than him. I don't think Sergio should fight Ward either, even though in terms of size he's closer to Ward than he is to Floyd. If Sergio can't fight at 168 where he's under sized, oh well. Clean out 160 and make your legacy like that.

I just don't see Sergio going below a reasonable CW like 157 or anything, he hasn't fought at 154 in what will be 4 years and he's almost 38 years old now.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Martinez goes to 168 & fights Ward, he leaves that ring in a pine box. If he does do something like that, he'll need a catchweight & the cheapest dirtiest excuse for a champ to steal a title from.

And Floyd has never been remotely close to making SWW in his two fights there, he was tiny, just like Sergio would be at 168. All I was saying is Sergio going to 168 is like Floyd fighting at 154, only Sergio hasn't actually attempted it yet, and probably won't.

I don't see Sergio fighting at 154 ever again, but maybe he will. I don't see it. He hasn't been that low in 4 years and he's about to turn 38.

1 more time. How many times has Martinez weighted in at middleweight for a middleweight fight??

Sergio going to 168 is not the same as Floyd at 154, because Floyd has been at 154 twice & is a 2 time champ there.

Martinez has never ever been to 168,ever.

Floyd would be fighting at 154 for a 3rd time, 4th if he ducks Martinez & fights ginger instead.
