[QUOTE=THE ИATAS;12530255][QUOTE=razor.thin;12530240]how many smw titles did he win?

What kind of dumb ass question is that? How is that relivant to fighting Palvik-Calzaghe?

oh so when Dawson moves down in weight he's weight drained, but 43 year old Hopkins moves down in weight, beats Pavlik and that's no problem. Riiiiiggghht. Plus, Pavlik wanted to KO hopkins, he agreed. Only has himself to blame for getting his but kicked.

But I see what you're doing. Trying to deflect the attention from Joe, who could have fought an undefeated pound 4 pound fighter and instead chose a shot jones.
    the cowardice of bernard hopkins

    - lose to roy jones so drains himself to make 160 so he can avoid him for the rest of his career
    - beating a skill less big welterweight who made his name overpowering smaller opponents in his 'biggest win'
    - beats midget de la hoya at a catch weight (what a joke this guy is, camping out at such a low weight)
    - loses to bum taylor twice
    - moves up to fight tarver (one of only risks he made, to cash in)
    - fights middleweight winky at 170 catchweight (winky fat as hell, head butts him to decision)
    - fights smw calzaghe (makes another smaller guy move up) and loses
    - fights middleweight champion pavlik at 170 catchweight (catchweight king hopkins?) pavlik also another guy who made his name overpowering smaller opponents not out boxing them
    - fights old, shot roy jones (even after calzaghe fought him yet he gets no stick for it)
    - waits until dawson loses to pascal who is a one dimensional fighter, cherry picks pascal
    - gets forced into fighting dawson by wbc, chickens out of fight faking injury (like he tried vs joe calzaghe)
    - loses rematch to dawson (obviously)
    - ducks andre ward

your hero is the biggest con man in boxing, how can a guy who had a trilogy with robert allen be considered a great fighter?

catchweight king, cherry picker, ducker + coward = bernard hopkins

at least joe didnt try and trick everyone into thinking he was a legend by using 3 catchweights and making 4 of his notable opponents move up in weight to fight him.

calzaghe fought at a healthy 168 for his entire career while the bigger hopkins starved himself to make 160 lbs to cash in while avoiding calzaghe and jones

if hopkins fought weight drained for his entire middleweight career that is amazing! Most weight drianed fighters get KO'd. If true hopkins is even more of a legend!

hopkins is clearly bigger than calzaghe and jones yet fought at the lowest weight of the 3, what do you call it?

Why because of the win over 1 name fighter at that weight the rematch over the career middleweight Taylor. The same Pavlik who was still the linear mw champion and had no intention of jumping to SMW?

Is that the Pavlik you're talking about? Or was the a different guy that tore up the division undercover?

Seriously I say some snarky stuff on here but it's lighthearted others are straight morons with their boxing knowledge.

Pavlik was never a factor at SMW when Joe was the champion. That's like saying Ward can't move up to lt heavy because his biggest challenge at SMW is Sergio even though Sergio at this point shows no indication of moving up.

How dare you challenge me with your primitive boxing knowledge.
I did say don't bother with the 'Pavlik is a bum' talk. Maybe you werent watching boxing back then? Certainly sounds that way. He was a massive HBO star who even had Floyd Mayweather getting jelous. A fight with him and Calzaghe would have been massive. The biggest fight in maybe 5 years. But Calzaghe chose Roy Jones instead.

its true it would have been a big fight. Google "Pavlik Calzaghe" and you'll find an endless amount of articles being written on the potential matchup. Top Rank was even planning on pitching it to CBS/NBC to have a 24/7 on primetime networks as well as HBO.

I know it's hard for some people, but at the time, if you try and go back 4 years ago, Pavlik was one of the biggest stars in america, period.

Calzaghe spent his entire career hiding out at 168 while a prime roy jones jr & prime bernard hopkins was a division abover & below him.

when did joe finally decide to fight them?

when they were in their 40s. Despite that, they still knocked him down. Imagine what would have happened if they fought during their primes.

Even worse, his long time division started getting great fighters (super six), & what does joe do?

                    retire to do coke.

Calzaghe will never get my respect.

Just because Joe vs Pavlik might have been wanted by certain boxing fans doesn't mean it would've been a big fight at least not to the level the DLH, Manny, Floyd, MAB, etc.

Pavlik was not a big star in America and I would know because that's where I live and Im a big enough boxing fan to follow stories about some fighters especially the stars to boxing fans.

You want to see an American sports star? Look at Lebron. That's a big star in America. Pavlik was known only to fans like us not to the mainstream. So "countless articles" or not Joe didn't have to wait until the "biggest star in America" Pavlik to move up before he left 168.
