not only did Sergio win by a huge margin, he was also fighting back after the knockdown. Most people went crazy at the knockdown and didn't seem to notice that after the knockdown, Sergio took 15-20 seconds to get his legs back and once he did, he won the remaining 30 seconds or so of that round. On top of that, Chavez was completely gassed, just winging in wild wide hooks that missed. He landed a few when Sergio was still stunned but once Sergio got his legs back, he dodged a bunch of them. Furthermore, even in the 12th round, Chavez only won like 45 seconds of it. Sergio was winning that round until he got tunnel vision for the ko and stood and traded against the ropes for no reason. He could have easily gotten off those ropes.

there's a huge difference between maidana losing by a point or two and Chavez who only won maybe 45 seconds of that fight.
So khan got caught in the 10th whereas Martinez got caught in the 12th basically ?

If knock-downs are significant enough to warrant a rematch, you should get like 7 points for one in stead of 2. Even then Jr would have lost.

Martinez should be getting all the props for whupping this bigger kid for 11 rounds straight and surviving a last round left hook, then getting up and fighting back to retain and win his title back. Chavez Jr didn't even finish the job. Definite skill gap between them. Only reason for the rematch is to get paid but it is proven that Chavez Jr cannot hang with Sergio Martinez and guarantee in rematch Martinez fights even more precise and cautious.

When a fighter looks like he's about to get stopped in that round then yes it warrants a rematch.

What i saw in the 12th is Martinez making the mistake of not respecting Chavez's power that wouldn't happen in a rematch.

                  Say Mang,

Martinez the great DID whup the young Chavez but:

                  1. Skills ain't everything, check Chavez Sr in second fight with Roger Mayweather ,,,,all those skills and NO HEART

                  2. The one that was getting a whuppin round after round CONTINUED

                  a. Continued to try something and found it too late but never gave up, mang that is the crossroads , so many quit like Mayweather did but this boy never QUIT mang and did something GREATER in the END than the preceeding.

ONE thing that is certain , that the Sergio fans are desperate in their Rhetoric to "OVERLOOK" that last round to make themselves feel better.

I don't know what your house was doing but ours went INSANE !!!!!!

I can't take anything from Sergio Martinez

I think he is an awesome fighter way before you ever said anything or anyone else said anything about him

NOW there is a DARK HOLE left and unfinished business.

The writer mentioned Mosley but it was in the beginning not the ending, sick

Mosely shot his wad early and had nothing past two

This boy Chavez was just getting cranked up

The fact of the matter is like it or not, THE BELL SAVED SERGIO THE GREAT

                    Good post.

Martinez is the man now. It should be up to him whether he wants to give Chavez Jr. the rematch or not. Chavez and Co. would not be giving him a rematch if roles were reversed. He got rocked in the 12th for a moment but still battled until the final bell and was just fine when the fight ended. Regardless of that shot, he ****ed Junior all kinds of up as I knew he would. I think Martinez dominates in the rematch if it happens, but I'd rather see Martinez/Floyd next.

I absolutely agree there are no comparisons in the two fights. If not for the knock down Sergio still would have won the last round. And I still say Junior's power is just as overrated as he is.
