Jr who was about more or less 20lbs heavier than the smaller Martinez got SCHOOLED & POUNDED for 11 straight rounds!!& to that add that Martinez fractured his left hand in the 4th round & in the 12th got dropped & tore ligaments on his right knee & a SERIOUSLY hurt Martinez still got up & traded with Jr & Jr still couldn't finish a guy with a broken hand, messed up knee & that was stunned!!& if the knock down had happened in the middle rounds & Martinez would have gone threw(like in the Pavlik fight) NO ONE would be really talking about that round or even mentioning a rematch!!The ONLY reason SCUMBAG Arum wants to do it is because it's the ONLY big money fight out there to be made with Chavez jr & Martinez & his team won't have a problem taking it is because it would be EASY NO RISK $MONEY$ for Martinez..SO NO, ONE ROUND DOESN'T APPLY OR MAKES THE FIGHTER DESERVE A REMATCH!!!!ESPECIALLY WHEN THE 11 PREVIOUS ROUNDS WERE SO ONE SIDED!!Last edited by Tomasio; 09-17-2012, 03:00 AM.

Even though Chavez JR rocked Sergio's world in that last round to say he was out on his feet is a bit of a stretch imo.
The dude went gladiator mode and started firing back instead of running and clinching.
No need for a rematch unless Sergio wants the pay-day. Chavez isn't smart enough or dedicated enough IMO to make the fight any different.

definitely a rematch, but perhaps down the road.
one round is definitely more than enough grounds to demand a rematch. it only takes one punch to change the course of a fight and one round has the potential of incurring a hundred punches just from one boxer. do the math. martinez showed how crafty he can get with his punches in bunches and footwork but his chin is questionable. martinez was dominating the entire fight but one punch from chavez, jr. was all it took to almost take it all away. so a rematch is definitely justifiable.Last edited by Fighting_Pride; 09-17-2012, 06:37 AM.

No.
Firstly it wasn't even a fair fight - It looked like a cruiserweight fighting a middleweight.
Secondly, the much smaller man dominated for 95% of the fight and threw hundreds more punches.
Thirdly, Martinez could have prevented Chavez's late surge if he fought more defensively and held which would have nullified Chavez's attack.
Basically - the only reason Martinez should take a rematch is for the money. But there isn't any competitive value to a rematch. It would just be a ploy for Arum to squeeze more money out of the Chavez cash cow before he loses all commercial value.

Yeah, you think if Chavez was able to get that KO that Arum would have given a rematch to Martinez? Chavez and Co. would have been out of the arena so fast, that they wouldn't have been there to hear Michael Buffer read the official decision.

not only did Sergio win by a huge margin, he was also fighting back after the knockdown. Most people went crazy at the knockdown and didn't seem to notice that after the knockdown, Sergio took 15-20 seconds to get his legs back and once he did, he won the remaining 30 seconds or so of that round. On top of that, Chavez was completely gassed, just winging in wild wide hooks that missed. He landed a few when Sergio was still stunned but once Sergio got his legs back, he dodged a bunch of them. Furthermore, even in the 12th round, Chavez only won like 45 seconds of it. Sergio was winning that round until he got tunnel vision for the ko and stood and traded against the ropes for no reason. He could have easily gotten off those ropes.
there's a huge difference between maidana losing by a point or two and Chavez who only won maybe 45 seconds of that fight.
also, another thing people seem not to have noticed was that martinez took Chavez' punches throughout the fight with no problem. It's just that Chavez happened to land one perfect punch that stunned Sergio. It wasn't even a result of him swarming him cuz Sergio could easily have gotten off the ropes there as Chavez was more to the left of him than directly in front.Last edited by danktrees; 09-17-2012, 08:02 AM.
