So Freddie... your plan...
is.....
to take a fighter with less than legendary stamina... and... have him outwork a fighter who is known for his endurance ?
Sounds like a real winning strategy you have there. So basically he can't come up with a way for Chavez to win.

Roach is right. Martinez eases off in the middle rounds. Which is fine. But then he gets hit so damn often during them. He can't let that happen this time round with Chavez's pressure and relatively good power.
At the same time Chavez has to pressure at exactly the right time. Otherwise a live Martinez can cause a lot of damage. The tactics for this are as intriguing as you'll get.

That's actually a good assessment from Roach. The problem with it is, and a lot of posters here picking Chavez fail to see, is that Martinez is going to be countering with some mean powerful shots of his own. People think that Chavez can just bullrush Martinez into a corner and tee off on him while Martinez cowers away and takes it. Nope! Martinez IMO has more power than Chavez, throws more accurate shots, and will be landing on a fighter who comes forward with no defense. This is actually a very easy fight to pick, Chavez's style is tailor made for Martinez to look great. Just take a minute and really look at the style match up, there will be numerous opportunities for Martinez to unleash power shots on Chavez. Yes Chavez Jr might have sturdy chin, but there's only so much you can take and we haven't seen his chin against anybody of Sergio's caliber. People think the wild card here is Chavez wearing down Martinez and stopping him like Margarito did, but Sergio has shown he has matured as a fighter and won't let that style beat him again (Pavlik).

So amped for this fight it's unreal.
I hope Martinez can pull it off but like some have said I think it depends on how Chavez can take Sergio's power, if he can; we're in for a long night.
I know Chavez JR has talked about fighting a different sort of fight but I can't see him being able to do that, I don't think he's smart enough for him. I expect him (and I think it's his best bet) is just to pressure Martinez and go to the body but Martinez will counter him all day IMO. Chavez is going to have to hope his chin holds out and that he can take more punishment than Martinez.
I just hope Martinez isn't relying solely on his power because if Chavez can take it then that could really mess with Martinez.
Hoping Martinez wins. Would love to see him KO Chavez and leave him lying on the canvas P Wills style but I think he'll UD him.

That's sheer speculation but at his age and with his style guys can get old overnight and the possibility always needs to be considered. Whether it's this fight or 5 fights from now it's inevitable that we see this decline.
Chavez could produce some real issues with his pressure. However he is far from unhittable and isn't exactly Pernell Whittaker. Martinez with his speed and sharpness will lead him into that left hand and we'll see how good Chavez's chin really is. He appears to have a good chin but no1 has tee'd off on him with the kind of power and speed of Sergio.

Like you said there is a real possibility that Sergio gets old overnight and this would be the sort of fight to show it.
I really hope it isn't though. I'd hate for Martinez to lose to a guy like Chavez JR.

Not sure if Chavez can take advantage enough to win, but Roach is absolutely right. It's not a coincidence that Martinez takes rounds off in every fight.
