Comments Thread For: Team Martinez: If Ward Moves Down, Sergio Will Fight Him

Sampson Lewkowicz, adviser to former two division world champion Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28KOs), is not ruling out a potential fight with WBA/WBC super middleweight king Andre Ward (26-0, 14KOs) - if Ward moves down to 160-pounds. There is absolutely no chance of Martinez moving up in weight to fight Ward at 168, says Lewkowicz to BoxingScene.com.

Completely agree. What's the point? Make the WBC the only belt that matters? Please! This will just lead to more and more champions. Unifying is the best thing that could happen. ****** ****** rule.

In all honesty this seems more like Martinez prefers to duck Geale than any love for the wbc belt. The organization is shady & worthless. Let Martinez claim that he loves the wbc. How can he after they screwed him??

On the subject of Ward, it's fair game what he said. But if Ward moves down to 160, he gets dawsoned. What Martinez is saying is that people need to forget about the fight because he's not moving up.

Ward should have to move down for this fight.

Only way it legitimizes this match-up.

He's been chasing Chavez Jr. and the belt for 2 years: first chance he gets he's gonna vacate? You must be joking.

Anyways, this is a ****ing ****** rule. I can't think of any other sports that openly slit their wrists like this.

It's bad for the sport if the rest of the sanctioning bodies follow suit. Just a perpetual line of belt holders and no true champions
