I believe Andre Wards concerted body attack had more to do with that than any sort of a weight drain. They are many smaller fighters that drain more weight than Dawson had too that do just fine.

Dawson didn't act like a drained fighter. He had energy the whole night, he was just out fought, out thought, and out worked.

Wards win over dawson is overhyped because hbo built it up, Wards best win was against Froch. The funny thing is Ward is a cherry picker, he ducked Lucian Bute, and Froch got the credit, Ward should have just fought Bute but he lacked the confidence. Also he never fights out of California or Oakland, he gets every advantage from weight, ring size, home advantage etc.

Dawson has no killer instinct, he was shot and he couldn't pull the trigger, I laughed when HBO said Ward took away the jab, what jab dawson couldn't even pull the trigger that night, he didn't even throw a jab mostly tied up.

When dawson started tying up in the first round I knew he was weak, he wasn't keeping range and he was getting dropped by a guy who is the equivalent to Tim bradley in terms of power. Dawson took Pascals best punches and Pascal according to Hopkins hits like a mule and Dawson took those.

Also the same guys hyping up Wards win on youtube and message boards are the same bias racists who ****ting on Pacquiao for beating Cotto at a catchweight, even though like Dawsons Cotto agreed to terms. They took any credit away from Pacquiao, saying the reason Cotto lost was because of the 1 ;b catchweight, and they said Cotto never threw jabs anymore, they never gave credit to Manny for taking it away. Cotto was far more competitive than Dawson.

This is an example of over hyping and racial bias.

Ward is a very good fighter, but if this was Pacquiao who fought a guy coming down in weight they would have bashed him with 300 threads even before the site went on press tour.

such a simplistic way of explaining what happened last night. how about looking at what ward did? he controlled the distance, took away Dawsons jab and never really let chad set up his punches which is what dawson needs to do to be successful. all the while ward beat him to the punch and landed some nasty shots dawson never seen coming that really hurt him.

this is the same failed logic people used to discredit pacs win over cotto, hopkins win over pavlik etc. focus on the weight and completely ignore what the other guy was doing that made them look bad.

Cmon shawn this post is just pure BS

He didnt act like a drained fighter? Lets see, no punch resistance, no energy at all, slow, lethargic, inactive throwing 170 punches, landing 29 and not even bothering to avoid punches

Sounds like drained fighter to me

Pacquiao jumped up 2 weight classes to fight Oscar which was absolutely crazy; Ward on the other hand fought in HIS weight class. Other than that I think your comment tells the truth and I see it exactly as you see it.

But completely ignoring the obvious drained weakness of dawson that allowed Ward to actually be THAT successful isnt fair either.

You dont have to be a ward hater to be honest and she Dawson was just a body in the ring and nothing else last night

Look at the replays. Dawson was getting clipped right on the tip of the chin with power shots. Drained or not, most peoples legs will turn to jelly after a while. Plus, we act like Abraham has this glass chin. Same with Froch. This fight just tells you theres lions between 160-168.

I will say the weight most likely did have an effect. But not throwing and quitting is no excuse. Weve seen guys overmatched throw caution to the wind and throw and go out on their shield just to give themselves a chance. Dawson quit as soon as he realized Ward wasnt going anywhere imo. Ward MADE him quit. Dawson thought cuz he beat an old man that he could go into 168. Admirable as him accepting the terms may be... None of the guys Ward fought at 168 quit like Dawson did... Dawson went from a zoo into the wild facing a proven king at a weight class.

That rumor that Miranda dropped him (though "denied") definitely seems like it happened though..

Dawson looked like the same guy that he always looks like only difference is Ward exploited all of his weaknesses and hurt him early. He also looked exactly the same as the weigh in as he did at 175.

I've always been a firm believer people on NSB focus waaaay too much on weight. If you can make weight safely and comfortably, you're fine. If you're killing yourself your drained.

                  This is drained:

                  This was dawson

Well lets use this as an example.

Vs Marco Antoni Rubia, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. weighted in at 160lb. HBO has him coming into the ring at 180lb.

                      20lb difference.

Dawson weights in at 168, come in at 185

                      17lb difference.

So a bigger man, drains less, and some how weight drained when a smaller fighter who drains more isn't.
