  • I just finished watching Ward-Dawson: Dawson was DEAD AT THE WEIGHT.

I just finished watching this fight. Chad Dawson didn't look like himself. I never saw Andre Ward hurting a guy so easily and badly in the last 4 years and I have never seen Chad Dawson GET HURT so easily and badly.
    Do the math.
I don't wanna take anything away from Ward cause he is a very good technician but that wasn't the real Chad Dawson. We will never know how much the weight troubled Dawson cause he won't admit it, but to me Dawson looked DEAD AT THE WEIGHT. We also heard before the fight that Dawson got knocked out in sparring - something we also never heard before.
Let's be honest: When did Andre Ward knock out a top opponent?? - Froch, Abraham, Allan Green went all the distance. The Kessler-Ward fight was stopped cause of Ward's headbutts. And now you wanna tell me Ward can hurt a Light Heavyweight seemingly easily and bad like that??
Chad Dawson isn't known to have a bad chin.
As far as I'm concerned, this fight only would have done something for Ward's legacy if it would have happened at a catchweight or at light heavyweight.
Great win for Ward- yes. But a big big shadow stays.

Dawson had every right to say he was drained to try take away the sting of that loss in the post-fight interview. Instead, he took it like a man and admitted that weight was not an issue. I don't believe weight was that much of an issue. It may have had some sort of effect, but nothing drastic.

Dawson lost because Ward simply outclassed him.. his movement was amazing and Ward at his best... is hardly possible to hit flush.

Thats my take. I hope you don't Red K me for having a different opinion like some other tards on this site. I think your argument is well argued, I just disagree

I figured Dawson wouldn't even make weight.

Froch and Abraham are less technical fighters than Chad Dawson and physically smaller. So why couldn't Ward even come close to hurting them or stopping them? Chad Dawson was basically hurt the whole fight. I find it very hard to believe that Dawson wasn't completely weight drained.
Do I know the truth 100 %? No.
I just see what I see and I saw a dead-at-the-weight- Chad Dawson

Dawson was a ghost in there. And when you aren't that good in the first place, that's always going to be a problem.

Ward came pretty close to hurting Froch, I almost stood in in disbelief when I thought Ward was about to knockdown Froch. Ward did claim to have a broken (or damaged, cant quite remember) left hand that fight, so that could be taken into account. Froch has a cast iron chin and I don't find it a fair comparison between him and Dawson. Dawson may not have a glass jaw, he definitely does not have a Froch chin.

As for Abraham, i'm not sure. I haven't seen the fight enough to comment on that. However, i'm sure that a change of gameplan or focus on the knockout towards Dawson may have changed that. I just don't believe Dawson would give away so many advantages, and say repeatedly he wanted to go back down to 168. Then at 168 say he was fine, both before and after the fight, for drainage to be a key factor

He was, unfortunately. No punch resistance, no energy.

Dawson was dead at that weight, but it was his decision and choice. He made a mistake and will move on.

I think his punch resistance was shot. But Dawson always fights like that. If he cannot control the tempo, he doesn't fight that well.

                    Oh ****ing well.

Props to Ward beating the shyt out of him and stopping him. This day should be about Ward not Dawson. Hell look at all the writers and posters who picked Dawson. Im pretty sure that you all knew this was his first fight under 175 in a long time yet they still picked him.
