agreed.............if both fighters sign a fight knowing full well that their is a catchweight involved then there is no problem in my eyes because to me they both agree and have little to no problem with it. it's only fans that make a big deal out of it to discredit another fighter's win. no one is putting a gun to another fighter's head to sign a catchweight fight...if he signs it then he signs it on his own will.

So Cotto was forced into that fight? News to me. Hey, I'm no expert. Just a fan. If there was a gun to his head (literally or figuratively) that forced him to fight Pacquiao, then I'll take back everything I said.

Actually, team pac proposed something like 143, they negotiated to 145, with no belt on the line. On surface, all seems well with that. Miguel was forced to put up his belt after the fact. Ultimately that doesnt matter, as miguel lost anyways, but the catchweight was proposed/used solely for the purpose of taking something out of miguel. Manny had fought previously, and since, at the divisional limit. But whatever.

What i scratch my head over now, is considering how handily manny beat miguel, why is he asking for a catchweight again. Just seems hes scared to fight miguel when cotto is comfortable/full strength.

As long as Manny makes the request, and as long as Miguel accepts, whether it is for Miguel to wear a dress when they box, or fight in Manny's backyard, it doesn't matter. The point is, if Miguel signs the contract it is on him.

He didn't "need" the money prior to the first Pac fight, and he doesn't need it now.

He is not a man to make/use excuses, doesnt mean it didnt effect him tho. He had to starve himself, beyond normal, to lose that extra weight. Only one reason that catchweigtm was requested, to take something out of him/not fight him at full strength.

didn't cotto say something about giving the wbo belt back if that was the case...and then they agreed to 145 lbs because originally cotto wasn't going to agree to 143 lbs..but either way he could have walked (it's just one of many belts) or he could have fought someone else, no? or was he forced to defend it against pac?
