    Do you hate catchweights...?

Period, or just the particular circumstances around the way they have been employed recently?

As long as it doesn't severely drain and/or put either fighter at a real disadvantage I don't see the problem.

catch weights are alright if its to make a Great Fight and neither is taking the fullburden of the reason the catchweight is being made.

That being said, everyfight you have shouldn't be a damn catch weight *coughs* Pacquiao *cough*

I don't have a problem with catchweights in general. They are good ideas in a lot of cases.

catchweights happen so much in this sport, ppl dont even realize it. what i dont agree with is catchweights for titles, especially when u are making another person fight at a catchweight for their title. unless both guys are bringing a title to the table, that is not cool imo.

Before anyone jumps in and starts screaming "FLOMO!!!!" the thread starter is obviously a Cotto fan.

I think catchweights inherently put somebody at a slight disadvantage, my biggest problem with them is when they are used solely to put the other person at a disadvantage. If the catchweight is used for the sake of getting two people, usually top fighters, into the ring who otherwise would never fight, im all cool with them. Was just wondering if there were any boxing/divisional purists out there

Who cares? If the fighter signs the contract, that is all that matters. It is the responsibility of a fighter to have the right people around him making the decisions that are correct for the fighter's health and financial gain.

As it were with Manny/Cotto...Team Pac proposed for Cotto come down to 145 for COTTO's title, and Cotto agreed to it. if Cotto didn't want to fight at the weight; if he felt it was too much to cut, then he shouldn't have taken the fight, simple as that.

I just wanna see top fighters making exciting fights. I don't care about weights, titles, purses, none of it.

i don't like catchweights in fights where the champion can't fight at the max weight of the division or where a championship of a division is awarded to the winner.
