Press tours usually happen about 2-3 months before the fight, when Canelo will be fighting Lopez. Crazier things have happened though.
I could easily see there being an agreement for Cotto-Alvarez, given Alvarez takes care of business against Lopez, and than just annoucning it literally right after that fight. Even if Canelo were to get upset by Lopez, Cotto can just go back and fight N'Jikam or Bundrage or something.

Cotto-Alvarez would be a big payday for Cotto, and a big fight in general. If Cotto wins, he puts himself in line for another huge payday, possibly a Floyd rematch. And if Alvarez wins, it gets him a win over one of the Top fighters around 154 lbs, and puts him in line to fight Floyd.

I'm just worried that Cotto may be too big of a step up for Alvarez.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Cotto fight the N'Jikam guy for the MW title, so that Alvarez can fight in someone like Kirkland in December first. Than, have Alvarez-Cotto in May/June 2013.

If Cotto picks N'Jikam though, I'd be a little upset. I don't see why he wouldn't fight at least Pirog, Golovkin-Proksa winner, or Geale-Sturm winner to make that MW title much more legit. N'Jikam is in the Top 10, but it's a vacant title.
It would be great for boxing, the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico. This fight will go down as one of the best, I would give Cotto a slight edge because he has the experience in a rough dog fight, but you never know until they both step in the ring, hope it gets made soon.

Kind of Chavez Jr.-Martinez situation? Where they announced it at the post-fight presser for Chavez Jr.-Lee. That I could see happening and if they announce it as being official before Canelo-Lopez, it makes Canelo-Lopez a much bigger fight. Would be very smart of GBP to do this.

The hypocrasy on this site is unreal sometimes.
If Cotto is intent on chasing a middleweight belt and he can't get Canelo next, fine. But I would be disappointed if he were to make dude put his belt on the line at less than 160lbs.

I agree on this man. He would be a very small MW, but still just take him on the full limit and Cotto can weigh in at 155-158. He can still beat Njikam without the CW, size doesn't beat out skill and Cotto has 10X the skill Njikam will ever have.
