Everything you just said applies to Leonard also he had problems dealing with speed as fast as his the hearns fight showed it. But as for tommy vs robinson tommy would have a hard time keeping someone as big basically and as strong as he was if not stronger plus a equally hard puncher with a hella better chin. I have no doubts he would get broken down and stopped by Robinson.

Sugar Ray Robinson was and remains the "Greatest Fighter" to date!!! So how is he NOT the greatest WW??? On a forum where Size is considered such a great advantage why wouldn't Sugarmans size be considered along with his obvious strengths? At 5'11" and 147-160 he is the only WW who could box and punch and carry power in "both" hands to win by KO! His chin and will to win are other attributes missing by so many fighters today.
If you saw Leonard run from Hagler he'd be on roller skates against Sugar. Hearns would be gone by 9 or sooner if Sugar decided to take the center of the ring and go to Tommy. Bentez, are you kidding??
There are fighters on Sugars resume that would dominate the division now and would challenge Leonard Hearns Duran Trinadad easily and scores wins over them.
No Ramos, No Basillo, Griffith, Ortega, Gavalin, Harrington,Parett, Gavalin, Moyer etc , there were many more excellant WW during Sugarmans time than Leonards or now its not even close. Those men defeated one another all the time and remained the top contenders for a decade, no one moved them out. Palimino and Cuevas were here today and gone tomorrow. Leonard waited for Hearns to wear down and did the same thing with the dominsate MW, Sugarman fought the dominate MW 5 TIMES!! Hw does Leonard hurt or stop Sugar when LoMatta couldn't? Theres only one Sugar Ray the others are just seconds. "Sweet n Low Ray Corso

I haven't seen enough of Sugar Ray Robinson to answer the question and I don't want to disrespect him, but I would rate Floyd Mayweather Jr above Sugar Ray Leonard. Of course Ray has the better resume, because he came along in a much better era, but when your talking about the overall package of everything that a boxer has or could have, Floyd is superior to him. He's smarter and adapts better, his defence is better and his inside game is also better. I'm very confident that he would've beaten Ray had they fought prime for prime. If your rating the greatness of these welterweights purely on resume then Floyd can't be considered the best but has there been a more skilled boxer in the welterweight division? I haven't seen one. People like to discredit him because of the provocative and annoying character he plays to gain interest, but the reality is that he is easily one of the greatest boxers of all time. The best I have ever seen.Last edited by JK1700; 07-25-2012, 12:45 PM.Comment
