I tend to agree with this. I don't think this is a smart move by HBO at all.

Ward and Dawson are both in my P4P list, but showcasing a fight like this isn't a way to bring fans into the sport. While Dawson and Ward both have their own personalities, neither are extremely interesting or entertaining. Aside from that, both of their fighting styles can be very boring to the casual fan. Ward especially. Although I applaud both fighters for taking this fight without hesitation, I think HBO is putting too much stock into this.

They should focus more of their attention on Chavez-Martinez. While Chavez obviously isn't on the same class as Dawson or Ward, this fight on paper looks to be much more entertaining than Ward-Dawson and could certainly attract the attention of many casual fans. Plus, both fighters are hispanic and have interesting backgrounds and somewhat arrogant personalities. I know they are planning to do a Faceoff between the two, but a 24-7 would be very interesting, taking into consideration the build up of this fight and the changing of the WBC belt last year.

These are two elite American fighters facing each other on regular HBO, but neither has superstar potential. Neither fighter is all action and Ward especially has an ugly style, and it isn't pleasing to watch him execute it. I guess HBO didn't learn from the failure that was Bradley Alexander because that's what we have again here plus a face off and 24-7. I'm bot saying they shouldn't fight but neither guy is money and it is foolish and bad for boxing to give this one a lot of hype and build up.

Wtf? This fight is between 2 young champions who are number 1 in their divisions. 2 American fighters at the higher weights and they are in their respective primes. 2 guys with boxing skills and smarts but with polar opposite styles. This is a perfect clash of styles to make for an exciting fight a toe to toe battle because ward will force the fight that direction.

This fight isn't a fight for the casual fan, this fight is a fight for fight fans. These are the types of fights that need exposure. The best fighting the best. In this very tread I've explained what the business of boxing has gotten us.

It's gotten us no Pacman-Floyd, but a lot of seperate fights between the 2 mostly against no-hopers.

But the sport of boxing is giving us Ward-Dawson. The 2 best fighters of 2 weight classes fighting each other, these are the kind of matches fans need to support.

Yeah put 2 boxers on a 24/7 who don't speak any English. Yeah that way more entertaining.

Foh...... Nothing interesting about Chavez or Sergio.

If people really open their eyes they'd see. The pfp #1 & #2 fighters both fight at 147 & have never fought. IMO Ward is the real pfp king & now he's fighting the best light heavyweight.

Major credit to Dawson for coming to Wards back yard. I really can't see a loser here. Not for them, not for the fans. This is boxing as a sport. Not the business, this is the sport representing. This is what I love.

The business of boxing gave us no Floyd-Pacman. The sport of boxing is giving us Ward-Dawson, what!!??

To the guys that don't agree with HBO backing this fight the way it has....who are we trying to impress?? Lol...really doe....think about it....this is a fight between two young p4p talents at the top of their respective divisions in their PRIME going at it....if u don't get behind this fight...then what fight are u gonna get behind?? this IS Boxing...

We concern ourselves too much with what the "casual" fan wants...so much it's almost become like urban legend...com on man...if a fan can't get behind a good fight that isn't a brawl...isn't it safe to say that they wouldn't be interested in BOXING as a whole ANYWAY? There is a reason why there is the "casual fan" and then the fight fan.

Like mentioned before, this is a fight for the fight fan. And it's a big deal for the sport. Some of ya'll startin to sound like used car salesmen.

if someone wants to see two dudes beating their heads in senselessly like cavemen, they can order the next volume of Bum Fights. Boxing is doing just fine.

Bushbaby you are so wrong about this. The business of boxing is giving us this fight. The sport of boxing would have Ward and Dawson fighting the best in their respective weight classes. HBO is using this fight to find its next young American star to utilize. This is the exat thing you ***** about Canelo and floyd/manny.

We as fans benefit from this fight, no question. I'm looking forward to it. I just don't know how you can cosign this when you have been ranting about the business of boxing for months now. Why aren't you complaining about Dawson fighting a desreving 175lb fighter, or about Ward leaving Showtime and not fighting Bute?
