Who could Mayweather have beaten to "prove" his greatness to naysayers?

You have to fight all comers and not just selected cherry picked guys. You have to put it on the line often, as even big underdogs can upset you if you let them have the chance, he dont put it on the line.
He is too protected in his bubble of retirement and lack of fighting, fighting only once in a while.Comment

I think after Oscar and Ricky it should have been Cotto. If he had beaten Cotto before Cotto's brutal loss to Margs. I think he would have shut up alot of people. Or if he'd have actually fought that second fight with Oscar, that would probably have done it as well. Instead Oscar takes on Manny in a freakshow fight, gets retired, and now here we are once again too many years later for a Mayweather win to get full credit.Comment

I mean read dudes post. Floyd moves up to 135 fights Castillo his 1st fight there and DTMB complains he didn't fight others. Of course at the time, Castillo was the best at the weight, so floyd shouldve fought stevie Johnston.
Its the formula man. Just plug in anyone it always works.Comment

well was i right or was i right?
TS trying to pass himself off as some neutral, knowledgeable, "honest" boxing fan, instead what we have seen from this guy is nothing but Floyd fluffing & pac hatin.
Just to answer this pathetic leave floyd alone thread,
At 135
Stevie Johnston
Joel Casamayor
Leonard Dorin
Acelino Freitas
Paul Spadafora
He fights Jose Luis Castillo 2x, Victoriano Sosa, & Phillip Ndou instead.
At 140
Kostay Tszyu
Ricky Hatton
Miguel Cotto
Vivian Harris
He fights Demarcus Corley, Henry Bruselles, & Arturo Gatti instead.
At 147 (this is gonna be good)
Younger Shane Mosley
Miguel Cotto
Antonio Margarito
Paul Williams
Joshua Clottey
Luis Collazo
Kermit Cintron
& now Manny Pacquiao
He fights Sharmba Mitchell, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah, Ricky Hatton, & Juan Manuel Marquez instead.
At 154
Corey Spinks
Roman Karmazin
Vernon Forrest
Winky Wright
He fights Old Oscar instead. (cant really blame him but he still didnt fight the top guys). He started talking noise about fighting winky then when it was time to finally sign he backed off & started making excuses.
Sound familiar?
Side note: Fraudlent Mayweather Jr. was a 130 up until 11-10-2001. One division below him 126 had fighters named;
Erik Morales
Marco Antonio Barerra
Manny Pacquiao
Naseem Hamed
Juan Manuel Marquez
Somehow, everybody finds a way to duck him, the self proclaimed face of boxing & cash cow. Why would they want to do that?
At 135, Floyd tried to fight Spadafora and Johnston, he still beat Castillo who was the best LW of his era and the top LW there.
At 140, Floyd was suppose to fight Tszyu after Mayweather-Gatti and Tszyu-Hatton. tszyu lost to Hatton, who Floyd tried to fight right after that in England at 140 lbs. It was Hatton and his people who said no. That fight happened in 2007 when Hatton was still unbeaten and #8 P4P anyway. Also, Floyd during 2005 called Cotto and his camp out several times. It was Top Rank who didn't try to make that fight, because after Mayweather whupped Gatti, they said "Cotto isn't ready for Floyd". Vivian Harris???? Oh you mean the guy that lost on the Mayweather-Gatti undercard to Carlos Maussa, who Hatton ended up beating, Okay.
At 147, Floyd tried to fight Mosley in 2005-2006, do you forget this??? It was Shane who came up with all the excuses in the world to not fight Floyd. It probably had something to do with Shane's boss, Oscar, wanting the first shot at him. Anyways, they fought when Mosley had stopped Margarito, who was the "man" at 147, and when Msoley was the WBA WW champ/#2 WW/#3 P4P and when everyone wanted that fight. Clottey, Williams, Collazo, and Cintron......you're picking guys that aren't even on that radar during 06-07. Clottey didn't even get a good win until August 2008 against Zab Judah. Williams didn't get a good win until Margarito in Early 2007, and than split with Quintana in 2008. Collazo had a shot to beat Hatton, and though it was a very close fight, Hatton got the nod. Cintron, name one win at 147 where people were saying "Man he should fight Floyd", and I'll wait. Those guys, no one was talking about Floyd fighting those guys, NO ONE at that time. Margarito in 2006, as I stated in my earlier post, was the only one Floyd may have found a way around. It probably had something to do with him splitting from Top Rank and knowing he was in line to fight Oscar.
At 154, Floyd tried to fight Winky Wright actually, but you must not remember that. And by the time 2007 came around, Winky Wright had been at 160 for 2 years. Winky hadn't been at 154 since 2004 moron. Roman and Spinks????? Are you serious???? He could have fought Spinks, but Oscar was still a Top 3 SWW at the time after coming back to stop Mayorga, and was a mega fight. How can you knock Floyd for fighting Oscar when he was the #3 SWW and WBC SWW champ??? Forrest, to be fair, wasn't really on anyone's major radar after he lost twice to Mayorga. And his only notable win at 154 was against Quartey and Baldomir. He wasn't even on the major radar at 154 man.
And those smaller guys you mentioned, Floyd said over and over that he wanted to fight Naseem Hamed, whether it was at 130 or a 128 CW. He really stated it after Floyd whupped up on Corrales. But Hamed lost to Barrera, which pretty much ended his career. No one, and I mean NO ONE, was calling for Floyd to fight Marquez, Pacuiao, Barrera, and Morales in 2001 or prior, you are a f**king moron.Comment

At 130 and 135 he beat the best guys their.....at 140 Kostya Tszyu lost his title to Ricky Hatton the same year Floyd beat Gatti....Floyd went on to beat Hatton at 147 after Hatton's team said he wasnt ready yet at 140....
at 147 people claim he ducked Paul Williams and Margarito, but really how is it ducking someone when you are making more money and fighting for the real world title?
Against Baldomir and beating the previous champion in Judah and has the best resume out of any active Welterweight with wins over Judah, Baldomir, Ortiz, Mosley, Marquez, Hatton, and Mitchell....beating two champions mean alot more than beating to contenders, also all risk no reward....
at 154 he beat the number one guy at the weight twice....ODLH and Cotto were the top rated junior middleweights when he fought them
My Picks:
1) Manny Pacquiao: the fight still is a possibility but if Bradley beats Pacquaio chances are the fight wont happen. His closest "percieved" rival
2) Kostya Tszyu: Would have been a great name on his resume but if he had fought him in 2004-2005 and beat him convincingly they'd have just said he was shot or made an excuse
3) Prime Mosley at 135....politics and Mosley chasing ODLH stopped this great match up from happening
at this point outside of beating Martinez at middleweight for the title their isnt nothing left that would prove his greatness or add to his resume
Cotto - past prime, Floyd retired in Cotto's prime
Ortiz - sucker punch
Mosley - grandpa
Marquez - lightweight, weight cheated
Hatton - a light welterweight
Oscar - past prime
Baldomir - the great
Judah - the best
Mitchell - excellent
Gatti - fantastic
Bruseles - amazing
I considered his skills great though. There are two person only to prove Floyd's greatness is to beat Pacquiao and Martinez.Last edited by straightleft; 06-05-2012, 10:36 AM.Comment

Clearly you've only been watching boxing for like 2-3 years and Boxrec everything most likely.

What greatness Floyd needs to prove?
Cotto - past prime, Floyd retired in Cotto's prime
Ortiz - sucker punch
Mosley - grandpa
Marquez - lightweight, weight cheated
Hatton - a light welterweight
Oscar - past prime
Baldomir - the great
Judah - the best
Mitchell - excellent
Gatti - fantastic
Bruseles - amazing
I considered his skills great though.
Oh and that Lightweight Marquez just arguably beat Pac at the exact same weight, Floyd should get his due for shutting him out at that weight. Oh and that Light Welterweight Hatton won a title over Collazo at 147, and isn't Bradley a Light Welterweight too???? Thought so.Comment
