I've personally found that to be a sorry excuse. I don't see how Pacman could be criticized for fighting a real champ that took the title from a real champ.

Dawson called Ward out at SMW, not the other way around-that is fact.
Maybe, but there is more of a chance that Dawson is weight-drained at 168 than Cotto was at 145. However, Dawson like Oscar would only have himself to blame.

In an interview with elnuevodia, WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto said that he could care less if he has to fight Manny Pacquiao at the 145 pound catch weight that he and his management team want him to fight. Saying “it does not matter if it is at 145 pounds. That was the weight that we said from the beginning and it’s my range. I will increase it by eight to ten pounds [by fight time].” Cotto also said that he was no impressed with Pacquiao’s recent fights, commenting “he [Pacquiao] has two arms and so do I.”

So it is clear Cotto wanted the 145lb catchweight from the beginning.

Both Dawson and Cotto wanted the money fight.
Ward is also the champion...Manny was NOT the champ when he fought Cotto.

Cotto wanted the money,yes-but he also wanted it at the limit.

Point is,Ward is NOT fighting for Dawson's strap at LHW-but vice versa.

Manny was the Ring Champ and Linear champ at 140lbs.

A real champ he wasn't...He was a paper titlist. And, a good fighter he wasn't either...Very light puncher, and always had a bum knee. Oh he would have been criticize for cherry picking...And, it would have been rightfully so.

At that time Clottey>>>>Foreman...No question about it.

                Yuri Foreman

7lbs is a big drop, Don't blame Cotto for not accepting or blame Pacquiao for making his stand, as he can't even make 147lbs.
                  i thought 149 was the max...uhh

I think the Oscar analogy is what fits more, but the difference is that Dawson and Ward hasn't fought yet,so we don't know what will happen.....we DO know what happened in the Oscar fight and we later heard Cotto say that he "will not sacrifice his body by weight draining himself for Pac again".

Here's what I believe. If a fighter wants to challenge for a title at a higher weight, you do it on the champion's terms as far as the physical part is concerned. If catchweights are necessary, forget about the belt. It is totally relevant that the first thing asked for was a catchweight... by the challenger in Pacquiao/Cotto case. The fact that 145lbs was agreed doesn't make it any more valid.

If Ward was fighting for Dawson's title, it would be the same. Dawson threw down the challenge and offered the conditions, like DLH did. It's on him like it was on Oscar.

Didn't Pacquiao weighed in at 147lbs on the dot against Oscar? He's usually come in heavier than most opponents until recently on fight night, that's for sure.
