That comparison shouldn't be made at all. Compare Cotto to Zab Judah and thing Jadah has a better resume than Cotto
Better resume Jmm or Cotto

Cotto's resume reads:
Torres: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Malignaggi: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Maussa: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Quintana: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Judah: came back to win a championship
Mosley: became THE lineal welterweight champion after Cotto loss
N'dou: came back to win a championship
Clottey: likely to win a championship again
Foreman: undefeated, likely to win a championship again
Not to forget he beat former champions like Cesar Bazan & Corley.
Now look at Marquez's opponents and do a comparison!
Cotto lost to Pacquiao at a catchweight. People talk about Cotto being 146lbs in his fight before Pacquiao but they fail to flip the coin and realise that in his fight after Pacquiao, he was fighting at 154lbs - hello? Then he lost to Mayweather in a competitive 8-4 or 7-5 type-of-fight.
Marquez has losses to Chris John and Freddie Norwood. I respect Juan Manuel and he stylistically he has Pacquiao's number but I'd go with Cotto on this one.Comment

Barrera was faded when he fought Marquez and who really won that fight? That fight is a fine example of horrendous scoring in a professional fight. HBO scored the fight for Marco Antonio and the judges had the fight for Marquez on a shutout?Comment

I think it's close. Both are definitely hall of famers, but I think Cotto would get the nod. Not to say Cotto is much better but he was promoted better than JMM and I think that would influence voting. There is more coverage in the higher ranks where Cotto made a name for himself at 147. JMM made a name for himself at 126, 130. It's a toss upComment
