Has there been another fighter to blast through so many expectations as Pacquiao?

  • Whether Pac has exceeded expectations or was favourite or underdog. Noboyd can dispute the fact that Pac has totally and utterly dominated every opponent since beating Morales all those years back, apart from one opponent and that is JMM.

    That is remarkable really.

You really haven't, but I'm not going to argue about who has watched more boxing with a guy who says jabs don't count in boxing.

Anyway, about the Cotto polls...this place was rampant with diehard Cotto fans back then so it would explain the poll. Look at how many Ricans were around in the weeks leading up to May/Cotto. Where'd they all go? Before Pac/Cotto there were like 10 times more than there were going into May/Cotto. Why do you think you see "delusional" in front of Ricans more often than "Puerto" on this site?

Many other boxing forums said the same thing, and so were the boxing writers and so called experts.

The Hatton fight changed those expectations, even though the majority of people expected Pacquiao to win no one that he would do it in that devasted fashion.

And if you look back to the Diaz fight, when Pacquiao says he want to fight Hatton, many posters were picking Ricky.

pacquiao hasnt shocked real boxing fans that many times. only mainstream fans were fooled to think margarito and guys like that were big challenges and even in his toughest fights like cotto he was a big favourite to win.

the last time pacquiao truly shocked the world is when he beat DLH. add the first barrera fight and thats about it as far as shocking the world goes, maybe the morales rematch, most were shocked to see him finish el terrible but thats it for sure.

hatton, mosley, margarito etc.. (and even cotto tbh) i couldnt see those fights play out any diffrent.

tailor made and/or washed up fighters with big names might impress the casual fan but people who understand the sweet science know whats up. now the guys at the beginning of my post, those dudes suprised everybody over and over, truly shocking the world.
LOL the fact that you have to GO BACK DECADES to get ALI , Armstrong and Duran speaks volumes.

Its clear why people hate Pac, he take shine away from Floyd. I personally think PBF is a PoS ****** for beating women but that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a great fighter.

          • I can't believe this idiot is using some posts and polls from this site to generalise "Most fans" picked Hatton and Cotto to beat him.

Both Hatton and Cotto were underdog's in those fights and rightfully so.

              When the fights happened.

But when the were first mentioned, 95% to 99% of people were picking Margarito and Cotto saying Pacquiao would get destroyed.

With Hatton it was about 50/50.

Maybe in 2008 when he just moved up to Lightweight.

When the fight's were signed, Pacquaio was favoured in all 3. By fans, and by the betting odds.

He has been the favourite for every fight he's had since Oscar.

                  • Careful matchmaking and facing guys with a handicap are the root cause.

I have not claimed to the contrary.

When he beat Diaz, the fight with Hatton was considered 50/50. Cotto was mentioned and that was considered a huge mismatch with Pacquiao life being in danger if it happened.

After Oscar, still the vast majority were picking Cotto to KO Pacquiao and Margarito was a Monster that was too big and would destroy Pacquiao.

Pacquiao also has the fights where he was an underdog 20/1 against Ledwaba, and the fights against MAB, Sasakul and Oscar.

Pacquiao has shatter expectations of him time and time again. Don't be surprised if he does it again.

How many people had Pacquiao blasting out Hatton in two rounds?
