Floyd has said he woukd fight toe to toe in all of his fights recently. Cotto is just excellent at cutting the ring off. To say floyd ourposely let cotto tee off on him is ridiculous. He won the fight clearly. No need to give him that much more credit.

That said, Mayweather was very uncomfortable in there. Particularly when he was hit by a clean left hook in the 5th round, he had a look of concern like "oh shyt I'm in a real fight".

If you you missed the actual fight too, that is exactly what he did. Only in the later rounds is when he stopped fighting Cotto's fight which led to Floyd taking complete control and ultimately rocked Cotto to win a 12 round UD. I had it 117-111. Cotto won rounds 2, 6, and 8.
You should really watch the fight when you get a chance... it was good and even better live.

floyd was throwing alot of pitty-pat keep busy punches(alot like mosley does), probabley what lowered his connect % the most

whether floyd purposely fought a tougher fight than he needed to or not, there's no denying that when he was boxing cotto from the outside, cotto was getting demolished. it wasnt just in the final rounds that floyd boxed him from the outside. he did it intermittently throughout the fought. in all those instances where he was fight in the middle of the ring, cotto by far came out the worse of it.
the brawling and fighting on the inside wasnt all cotto either...floyd usually landed more or as many as cotto did in those instances. cotto did land some flush shots but the majority of them were blocked, partially blocked, or missed outright. watching some of those exchanges on slow-mo and you'll see what i mean. there were a lot of exchanges where cotto threw 10 punches and landed nothing.
all in all, floyd fought cottos fight. whether he did it willingly or not doesnt really matter cuz he still did it and beat him regardless. in those instances where he fought a style more to his liking, he was destroying cotto...especially in that 12th round. after seeing the final round, lemme ask you guys this...if it went another round or two, would cotto have survived? floyd fought cottos fight but it was cotto who tired first and started getting the worse of it after round 8. floyd may not have won as impressively as some people would have liked but cotto didnt win many rounds against him. floyd fought cotto's fight and still won. i dont really see why it matters whether he did it willingly or not. obviously he's going to say he did it on purpose, i dont think him nor any other boxer would claim otherwise.
as for his lower than usual connect %, that tends to happen when you're brawling on the inside or against the ropes...you're never going to land a high % in that situation regardless of who you are.

And for the last part, doesn't that make you wonder the big myth about Floyd's great punching accuracy all this years is just that, a BIG MYTH.... Floyd fighting a mobile Cotto only produced 26% percentage for him, Manny fought Cotto the same way and he got 43%...
