Why is it that certain posters/moderators ALWAYS run to the defense of certain companies? This clearly demonstrates the real issues in the "media".Are you seriously comparing Mayweather/De La Hoya to Gamboa? Those fighters left Top Rank when they were pay-per-view stars and they left on LEGAL terms. Gamboa can't even sell 100 tickets, has no real following and can't speak a word of English. And yet he was being offered 1.2 million to fight Rios.Comment

Arum was about to make Gamboa over a million dollar's for a night's work. The guy doesn't even have a fan base or speak English. How is that doing a bad job?
The proof is in the pudding, Mayweather Promotions hasn't made one champion, hasn't built up one fighter. They are like Haye Promotions; they were only a bonafide promoter when they're flagship star was in the sport. When Floydy retires; Mayweather Promotions sinks.Comment

arum might have been about to give gamboa a ton of money but maybe gamboa didn't want to take the loss that would have been forced on to him? Anyone who thinks gamboa would have beat Rios is dumb cuz the fix was in from the start. Gamboa probably realized it before the fight so he backed out of a rigged fight. Instead, it was abril that got robbed.
and yes, gamboa did accept the fight, but that was probably before arum told him he has to take a loss so that Rios can keep his record intact and fight the bigger names after their fight.Comment

I wouldn't have described Mayweather as a ppv star when he left Arum, it was only after he fought DLH that he became a household name. Are you seriously comparing Mayweather/De La Hoya to Gamboa? Those fighters left Top Rank when they were pay-per-view stars and they left on LEGAL terms. Gamboa can't even sell 100 tickets, has no real following and can't speak a word of English. Gamboa may not have a huge following, but who's fault is that. Top Rank have had 3 years to build him up and, just like when Mayweather was at Top Rank, they haven't delivered. Gamboa is undefeated, has been pro for 5 years, is in the prime of his career and yet he has fought no one of importance. Top Rank only seem to be interested in hyping up Latino fighters, compare the amount of attention Gamboa has received to that of Rios or Juanma Lopez. The sooner Gamboa leaves Top Rank the sooner he can start building a fanbase and making some real money.
Edit: I didn't know that Gamboa was offered $1.2m, but I guarantee that's a fraction of what Rios would be making. Besides, Gamboa would have been robbed just like Abril, and a slick fighter with a loss on his record isn't going to be making much money when Arum's in charge (not that any fighters make much money under Arum anyway.Last edited by urrah; 05-02-2012, 07:56 AM.Comment
