Don't develop amnesia now homey. When Pacman was hot as hell laying waste to Cotto & Hatton Floyd was the 1 making excuses. But as soon as Pacman got his a$$ whooped & got a gift against Marquez, all of a sudden Floyd wanted the fight.

If you can't keep it real, leave my post alone. Both are 2 blame. Floyd included.
Pac killed the fight in 09...5050 split and all....don't get amnesia....homey

    Clottey was already signed...

    It's BOB..

It ain't got nothing to do with Manny "laying waste" to ALREADY WASTED fighters

Cotto just said it...Mayweather was never in their plans...Even while Arum was saying Floyd was ducking him....Now it's Manny he's supposed to be ducking..

Floyd could have dropped the drug testing and it would have been something else...like a stadium or Dubai...

Could have?? Sounds like speculation to me. Typical fan having to make excuses for their fighter. Which coincidentaly was my original point to begin with.

It's not speculation that Cotto got Floyd soon as he left Arum.

He's been the hold up all along.

        5050 split
14 day cutoff...........denied.....Clottey already waiting in the wings with a signed contract in his pocket..

If any of that were Mayweather's fault I'd blame him..

You don't get it. Because Floyd didn't demand ped testing & he didn't accuse Pacman of peds when the fight was hot right?? Anyway I'm done here, you & your excuses for Floyd sicken me. I bet you think Floyd-Cotto is the biggest fight of the year even though 90% of the boxing community think Floyd's gonna win anyway.

They trained to go much longer than that. I know for certain that both Max Baer and Joe Louis had a few 20 rd fights in the 1930's and 1940's. And of course there were many others. In earlier years were fighte up to 45 rounds, like Jack Johnson-Jess Willard. Early records show that they had as few as 2-3 round fights, 5-6 rds fights etc. Many were more like exhibitions, and it was common for fighters with their sparring partners to tour right through the country giving shows in the outlying towns and cities. Anything to make a dollar. They needed to eat and often ate not too well. It's a vast subject not to be handled here.

On these sites we get only the bare details, but the nuances, little anecdotes, personal comments, potentially significant but not recorded events etc are not there. We get those in other ways, drop by drop, to try to make a more-or-less whole story.

              I get the same feeling.

Not all of the time, of course.

Cotto just admitted Arum NEVER mentioned a Mayweather fight to him...even while he was telling the media Floyd was ducking him..

Soon as Cotto leaves TR he gets Mayweather ( and his biggest payday ever)..

                That is no coincidence...

Teddy Atlas said it best last night:

"Why can't he leave Arum and promote the Mayweather fight himself?.....he's the biggest name in boxing..he doesn't need a promoter"
Does Cotto say whether he told Arum he thinks it might be a good deal to fight Mayweather?? The fighters and their managers chose who to fight, the Promoters tell them who's available and how good a business deal it might be, and then boost up the fight.

You clucks seem to think that Arum is a Svengali, and has complete control. Their contracts don't give promoters complete control, except over the event itself. If they did it wouldn't stand up in a court. So get real.

You are exactly the type of fans the op is talking about. You can end this thread now because you just validated all he had to say.

To the op well said. It true but it won't ever change. To many keyboard warriors, espcially here on NSB.

I can't help but agree. Nowhere is the general lack of insight, perspective, and history more apparent than here in NSB. I hate to be "that guy", but when I first joined up here back in June of 2006 there was much more appreciation for previous eras, more knowledge than personal opinion in users' posts, and a healthy portion of the userbase was well versed in boxing history.

Then then De La Hoya/Mayweather "superfight" happened, along with a succession of other "superfights", and the influx of new fans to the sport and the drop off of overall intellect here in NSB pretty much coincide with each other.

That to me is disrespectful. Claiming to be a boxing expert at 21 is disrespectful to real boxing heads and your sentence is disrespectful to the english language.
