Why ask for 8 oz gloves for a 154 lbs fight?

You people are completely missing the point of my question. It was a simple question asking if the smaller gloves would affect his hands more or not.
Doesn't he shoot up before fights anyway even tho it's not allowed?
Im just asking questions here, Im not insinuating anything. Just questions of stuff I hear/read. Damn fan boys get so defensive and don't even read... smh.Comment

When Floyd fought Shane Mosley, his trainer Richardson brought up this rumor and investigated it. And according to Richardson, he found nothing illegal or unusual. Everything with Floyd was legit. And Shane's trainer is no joke, he looks and nitpicks everything in sight! That's how Margarito got caught.
But yes, 8 oz gloves offer less hand protection than 10 oz gloves. So technically, they can or will affect a fighter's hands more.Comment

You seem to know all about it so I'm obviously not lying. Why should I lie. It was a demand by the Mayweather camp. There was a lot of talk about it and not one word of denial from Mayweather. In fact I believe that some of those comments were supported and repeated by Mayweather. It died off because it was so ridiculous in the first place.Stop lyin, it was never a demand that he only train in the U.S. That was a concern that was brought up by Mayweather Sr. during an interview with On The Ropes radio. But Mayweather Jr. himself never mentioned that. And the whole thing with the Mandela's, you should do your homework on. No one would demand $10 million upfront just to have a conversation, are you joking? Now to close the deal -- maybe that would be possible.Comment

You are lying because this was never mentioned in the original negotiations and it didn't come from Floyd Jr, Ellerbe, etc. This came straight out of the mouth of Mayweather Sr, during the On The Ropes radio interview. And immediately after that interview, like the very next day, it made headlines on different websites. Next thing you know, Bob Arum is commenting on it as one of the new demands he has a problem with. Haha. Do your homework and you'll see that came straight out the mouth of Mayweather Sr, and no one else. That was not a demand from the Mayweather camp.
Mind you -- USADA, also stated later after that stuff made headlines, that it doesn't matter where Pacquaio trains. They have the ability to test him wherever he decides to train.

I guess where Im getting at is that that's probably the reasoning for him asking for the 10oz instead of the 8oz.Comment

u are lying. the comments on that were made by sr and sr only. floyd never said anything about it. if calim he did then u better quote some interviews because no1 else heard it but u.You seem to know all about it so I'm obviously not lying. The $10 mill was reported as a direct quote of one of the people who were doing the negotiating. There must have been something going on because I saw a picture of that guy Moody, Mayweather and Zindzi Mandela in a newspaper at that time.Stop lyin, it was never a demand that he only train in the U.S. That was a concern that was brought up by Mayweather Sr. during an interview with On The Ropes radio. You are far too defensive, I'm merely talking about what was reported. That's the only information we get that has any chance of being correct other than gym gossip. Otherwise we really know nothing. And if we know nothing, perhaps we shouldn't be talking about anything-period. So they can close down the site.Last edited by edgarg; 04-09-2012, 03:14 PM.Comment

I don't think he has problems with his hands like he used to. Its not an issue that gets brought up anymore. He already wears heavily padded gloves, if you look at his gloves compared to his opponents they always look much bigger. I guess he is comfortable in the 8oz gloves since he's worn them his whole career. Cotto pretty much has worn 8oz gloves his whole career to so its not a problem for him. I don't really see the big deal in the glove size since it doesn't seem to be a big deal to either fighter. You people are completely missing the point of my question. It was a simple question asking if the smaller gloves would affect his hands more or not.
