Why ask for 8 oz gloves for a 154 lbs fight?

In the 2009 negotiations with Pac, Floyd reportedly wanted to use 10 oz gloves in a division where 8 oz is the norm. Now, at 154 against Cotto where 10 oz gloves is the standard, Floyd asked for 8 oz gloves.

Can someone explain and give a rational reason for this strange turnabout?

In 2009 Mayweather agreed to 50-50 split, 8 oz gloves, and the ring size Pacquiao wanted. All Mayweather asked for in return was Olympic Style Blood Testing, which Team Pacquiao declined.

          Stop making up false ****.

The camps agreed to a 50-50 split of the money, which could be gargantuan. Many experts expect the fight to eclipse the all-time pay-per-view record for sales, which is the 2.44 million buys generated by Mayweather's 2007 victory against Oscar De La Hoya.

Both fighters will wear 8-ounce gloves but each fighter will be allowed to select the brand of gloves he will wear for the fight.

Manny Pacquiao signed a contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in boxing's biggest fight on March 13, a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com on Friday night.

How you post a link in your own thread, confirming that you're wrong.
As for the weight, although there were initial reports that Team Mayweather wanted the bout to take at 154 pounds, both fighters will indeed meet at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds for Pacquiao WBO title. They will also be wearing 8-ounce glove, as opposed to 10-ounce glove as initially reported....
