Why ask for 8 oz gloves for a 154 lbs fight?

In the 2009 negotiations with Pac, Floyd reportedly wanted to use 10 oz gloves in a division where 8 oz is the norm. Now, at 154 against Cotto where 10 oz gloves is the standard, Floyd asked for 8 oz gloves.

Can someone explain and give a rational reason for this strange turnabout?

Again the 10oz gloves demand were lies and rumours, You can either believe that lies or facts that 8oz was agreed upon for the Pac fight before the fight collapse and since that time Mayweather would have fought 3 times since againt bigger men/punchers Pacquiao with 8oz gloves, So if these facts doesn't debunk the 10oz rumours to any rational/stable person then nothing will.

Im not believing anything, just questioning. I could careless if Floyd fights Pacquiao or shoots up or loses his 0 or stays in jail. Boxing doesn't revolve around neither one of these guys so if they fight I watch but that's it.

The article talks about Xylocaine (which is the name I was looking for) which is illegal and says he's clean from it but doesn't say anything about him using or not using novocaine which is legal and since being so some might think is irrelevant then. Thanks for the article tho.
