Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez To Ink Agreement For Chavez-Lee Winner

My question is does Sergio want to fight Chavez because he holds a belt or because Chavez is a great PPV draw?
If it's the first, then I see no problem with Sergio fighting the winner as he'll fight the champion no matter what. If it is the latter, then there is a chance Sergio might end up fighting against Lee, which might be a good fight for us, but not be the PPV event Sergio had in mind.
Last question: How binding is this contract between Lee-Sergio-Chavez? Couldn't the winner of Lee-Chavez suddenly decide to hop weight divisions and leave Sergio without a dance partner? Can the WBC overrule a contract?Comment

They're really taking this far, even signing contracts and all that. It's gonna take a Houdini type of act to get out of a fight with Martinez. But I think with the WBC on your side, and having the corrupted Top Rank promoting you, they can definitely pull off a David Blaine and keep postponing the fight. Like I said, I won't believe it until the bell rings. I can see Chavez Jr fake tripping on his way up the steps of the ring and the fight being called off by the paid doctors.
No, that would be ******. Chavez Jr is a C class fighter at best, Martinez can beat him even on steroids. This is not like Pascal asking an A-class Hopkins to take the test, or Floyd asking for nthe B-fighter Pacqiao to take the test, or Judah with Khan, or Berto with Ortiz. This is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr we're talking about here. The bum of all bums. Even Cotto would knock this guy out on steroids and plaster.Comment

Martinez doesn't give a damn about the belt. Is because of the money. My question is does Sergio want to fight Chavez because he holds a belt or because Chavez is a great PPV draw?

Dibella has said before that they would let Chavez fight another opponent first IF they guarantee in the contract that they will fight Martinez next. And, if they don't then Chavez would have to pay Martinez x amount of money.
Now I only think that would be only for Chavez. If Lee wins, Dibella being Lee promoter as well. Might go another direction. They might match Lee up with another Dibella opponent in Taylor. And, have Martinez go another direction. Maybe still a Chavez, who knows...Because, I think with the success that they had with Martinez-Macklin on St Patrick Day. They might want to do that again next year with Martinez-Lee.Comment

So I take it that you don't think Lee can beat this C class fighter? They're really taking this far, even signing contracts and all that. I would say think Chavez might = Ortiz...Or might be even better than Ortiz...I'm not sure yet. They jury is still out. But, Chavez is growing on me. Doping and all.Comment

Martinez was wrongfully stripped by the WBC, and the belt was handed to Chavez Jr. I think it's a combination of a couple of things, including Martinez's anger for losing his belt to Chavez Jr, without Jr even fighting him. Money, Chavez Jr being the biggest money fight at 160.My question is does Sergio want to fight Chavez because he holds a belt or because Chavez is a great PPV draw?
