Why would Golden Boy set him up against a no name Mexican fighter in Mexico?

Why not in Venezuela? Or in Cali where he trains at? Especially since the rematch with Demarco was going to take place in Cali. That would make sense for a promotional company to do so.

    But, we're talking about GBP.

Linares without GBP 27-0(18ko). Linares with GBP 4-3 all 3 losses by Ko's.

Bad Bad luck for Linares.. I didn't think the cut was that bad to stop it all of the sudden right then & there. Linares has good skills but seems to get caught up in these wild exchanges & his jaw ain't all that solid..In his 1st defeat he was caught & dropped with a left hook in the 1st round & then dropped again in that round to end the fight..In his lost against DeMarco he was winning the fight but was a bloody mess & after some strong rounds towards the end of the fight Linares folded like a taco in the 11th after DeMarco wouldn't stop pounding him..& tonight he got clobbered in the beginning of the 1st & then he staggered Thompson badly but didn't take advantage & that bit him in the ass in the 2nd when he got clobbered again & then dropped & ended with a cut that was stopped by the ring Dr..Linares is gonna have to start from scatch & make some serious adjustments to better his defense..I think having Roach as a trainer ain't working for Linares & he should probably consider getting another trainer..Not all great trainers are tailor made for every fighter, for example-->Buddy McGirt is a very good trainer but his style wasn't working for Malignaggi & with a less known trainer things have gone better(not great, but better) for Maignaggi..

Plain and simple, Linares shouldn't of had much of a problem with Thompson, let alone lose to him. Yes, it was a quick stoppage, but anyone who thought he was going to survive are either blind, or utter fan boys. Also, I really don't get how this is GB's fault...? Yea, a little bizarre the fight was in Mexico, but it's Linares' job to go in there, and win fights. Not GB's. I've always felt Linares was seriously overrated. Yes, he has talent, but he seems to fail every time he steps up. Now, he's been blown out early twice, and once by a C level fighter. I do agree though, Roach has taken the wrong approach with him. I always felt this was going to happen to Linares once he stepped up.

Linares is crying about a headbutt that caused the cut. Didn't see no ***in headbutt, he needs to man up and accept defeat without his sorry excuses.
VS Salgado, he wasn't feeling right, with Demarco premature stoppage, and Now a headbutt...

It's not true that he has folded every time he has stepped up though...His biggest step up was a year before joining Golden Boy when he Gamaliel Diaz. And, he surpassed that with flying colors. Now he just getting stopped by journeymen.

I bet Venezuela is missing Edwin Valero just about now. Linares looked like a future star but his chin has been his downfall, now that Roach has ruined him he need to go back to the drawing board and change trainers. Someone who can maximize his talent. He's not done but one more loss could really end his chances. 3 losses, all by ko, that could be it witho the way boxing is nowdays.

I remember some people use to debate on who was better between Valero and Linares...A lot of people always picked Linares because of his style of fighting. Valero was the much better fighter.

You're not making any sense. It's not the first time Linares fights in his opponent's home country, he fought Diaz in Mexico and Garcia in Panama and it didn't matter because he was leagues above theses guys just like it shouldn't have mattered against Thompson because he's leagues above him. Location has never been a problem before, his first loss happened in Japan where he fought most of his career, his 2nd loss happened in California where he trains.

And why would GBP set him up to lose? He's one of their best young fighters.
