Straight up, Mexicans have great chins. There are exceptions, obviously, but we see it consistently enough for it to be clear.
I think it could also be the way their trained. They come up as FIGHTERS from a young age. There's a mentality behind how they fight and train that differs on a fundamental level from Puerto Ricans.
Mexicans are brought up with the mentality that getting hit is a big part of the sport, while Puerto Ricans are brought up to box more so they have a different mentality ingrained in their heads.
Most of it is genetic, but I'm sure some of it is how they're developed.
Maybe it is that Mexico produce so many fighters that you have a lot of top fighters and as fighters develop there is a lot of competition.
But there are also a lot of tomato cans in Mexico. There are a lot of places in Mexico that boxer can train at high altitude and that helps with the stamina.

OK, I'm going to post something that isn't politically correct and might not be received well by many here but here goes.
I understand that it's about the individual and yes, there's been many PR fighters with great chins. There are stereotypes in sports and boxing is no different.
African American fighters have a reputation of being slick, fast boxers.
PR fighters are kind of the same with a little more brawl to them.
Mexican fighters are considered tough brawlers with great chins and stamina.
Of course I can name a fighter from every nationality or race that contradicts those stereotypes but I think there is something to them to a certain extent.
For example, you can't tell me there hasn't been a higher proportion of black fighters who have more speed than what we see with other races.
Or Mexican fighters with great chins.
I think a lot of it is genetic and that's just not the PC thing to say but it's true. Mexicans come from Asian decent, we see how Japanese and Filipino boxers tend to have great chins as well so there's something to that.
Black athletes in general tend to be fast, whether it be of foot or hand but they have that quality.
Again, there are exceptions to the rule but I do think there's something there.
It also has a lot to do where you come from. Mexico is a hard place, especially if you come from poverty. Same with a lot of 3rd world countries so people grow up rough and tough. There's an attitude in Mexico of never giving in, never quitting and it permeates throughout the culture.
I think there's something to say about that.

I think you pretty much nailed it...... in our own Mexican culture fighting slick or cautiously wouldn't really be received aswell.
Mexicans like fighters "que pelean con huevos"

once again that's a good looking post. as they say around here on the sports radio that's a "hot sports take."
there's nothing wrong with what you had to say. we should be mature enough to talk about this stuff.
i'll also say this, there are parts of mexico that are insanely high. training and living at elevation is a huge advantage in terms of the cardio you bring into a fight at normal elevation. the mexican fighters with real athletic talent and technique tend to be among the most durable and best conditioned. elevation cannot be overstated.
mexico city is 7000 feat above sea level, right?
and it's in a valley
