Why would you disbelieve that? To me, that was the MOST credible part.

That is the oldest promoter trick in the book: "you can have this million-dollar payday as long as I have options (or ownership) of you for the next x years"

Because, he just recently signed a 2 year extension. Why force a 5 years extension when you just made him sign for 2 years and you still have 2 full years to force the 5 years extension. If anything you wait to see if he beats Rios. Because, if he beats Rios he is in line for a possible Pacquiao fight. And, you wait till you incite him with a Pacquiao showdown to force the 5 years extension.

So no that is where the whole thing lost credibility.

he also signed that 2 year deal without knowing, he got totally foked by tony gonzalez who works for oner. him not knowing english and coming from a country that has no contracts, no lawyers, no promoters. I can esily see how he can be deceived. he probably then reviewed it with a friend a few days later and said wtf is this

If there was anything wrong with the Rios contract is that some of his demands weren't met EX: Glove type and/or ring size.

this is what promoters do...basically they try to get you in a "NEVER ENDING SLAVE DEAL" same BS with Timothy Bradley and Gary Shaw...fans just assumed that Bradley ducked Khan...but what they don't express enough is how if Bradley would have took the fight with Khan, it would have been a automatic Contract Extension with Shaw for yet ANOTHER FIGHT

Same thing with Mayweather and Bob Arum, if he would have taken the Margarito fight, that to would have also EXTENDED HIS CONTRACT WITH ARUM, meaning that Mayweather vs De La Hoya would of NEVER HAPPENED!

Fans need to open their eyes more and understand that a lot of times fight not happening is actually out of the fighters hands, a lot of times it is the Managers and Promoters RUINING FIGHTS with their Corruption and GREED! Arum did it 3 times with Dan Goossen when they tried to come together and make the Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik fight

I KNOW Gamboa has no type of fear what so ever when it comes to Rios, what Top Rank is doing is using Rios to BAIT Gamboa into signing a BS CONTRACT...just like they used Margarito to BAIT MAYWEATHER into not leaving Top Rank and signing a BS CONTRACT!

I always had concerns and never understood why Cuban fighters all Run to Oner...the guy who FIX FIGHTS IN GERMANY ALL THE TIME he is extremely Corrupt!

Shaw was not offering an extension for the Bradley Khan fight. That is absolutely false. They had come to the point where he was willing to let Bradley walk after.

Also, Gamboa needs to stop playing the victim card. The story might be true, but he still came to an agreement with Top Rank and all the parties involved. They have a binding contract and he's stuck to that. He needs to fight and would be ****** not to.

I can understand his frustrations if the contract was extended, but they have a binding agreement. This is setting an awful precedent too and HBO needs to take a hardline to make sure boxers never do this again.

Cubanborn already explained that the part about a five-year deal (which he put in parentheses) was his own speculation, not his source's.

And, speaking of speculation, we're all just guessing as to what exactly went wrong with Gamboa's contract. Something is clearly amiss. But, like "Gino Ross," one thing I'm certain isn't the problem is Yuri's guts....

Thanks for the info but I don't blame anyone else expect for gamboa, If he doesn't speak english, never understand what a contract is then why doesn't he or his People ( Dad ) included, get him a lawyer that would/can go through every little details of his contract with Ahmet oner? This is 2012 Not 1912 when boxers are easily exploited by all this promoters, If you are getting exploited in this day and age by a boxing promoter then you have to put the blame on yourself and your team, He's so naive he doesn't realise that he would end up paying for hotels that he stays in? Wow and Mayweather coming to his rescue is laughable that's exactly how a boxer gets exploited by a promoter.

Ultimately, Gamboa might have to swallow a bitter pill -- that's very likely -- but that's no reason not to empathize with the man. You say you can "understand his frustrations," yet, if you did, you would also understand his last-minute attempts to settle matters to his satisfaction. There isn't a single person on this forum that wouldn't do what Yuri's doing right now if they could.

And you're right, this is almost certainly setting a precedent. Larry Merchant commented recently that, as far as he can tell, this case is "unprecedented." From now on, the practice of holding off on signatures until a later date will probably be a thing of the past.

See that's BS and a conflict of interest, Basically oner choose Gamboa's lawyer for him, But in the background he actually works for oner, this is like Bob Arum employing manny Pacquiao adviser ( Koncz ) who actually works for Arum .
